Sack Flanno….

Wouldn't be surprised if Eels convened an emergency meeting this evening and sacked the coach while our 'stable genius' brains-trust still doesn't know what to do about Flanno.
My memory could be fading so I'm asking has there been any former Dragons player ever become a top tier head coach in the NRL?

Lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater but why hasn't Flanno been sacked yet? What are they waiting for? Why wait until Tuesday? Are they going give him another couple of weeks? I can't believe anyone believes Flanno can turn it around from here.
I actually heard on another media source that the meeting on Tuesday is not specifically for Flanno, and once again its an owners decision to sack him, not the board. I really find the whole lot frustrating, but this is the Dragons so what else would you expect.

Given Flanno is contracted through to the end of 2028, any payout is going to be substantial, even if they manage to negotiate a reduction on the total amount. It’s the sort of decision that would require the owners to sign off, not just the board.

Wonder if the owners are just playing a waiting game whether flanno resigns himself or waits to be punted. Imo they don't care about results like us fans, to them it's about $$$ payout.

I assume we have some sort of clause in the contract to punt him for a lesser amount but maybe its games dependent?

I am hoping that given he was on shaky grounds at the time of extension.. that the deal had plenty of performance clauses built in for 27 and 28.. not sure however they could have anticipated April 2026 though as the date he would depart.

Reed keeps saying it is the owners that make the call (not the board), he said it was CYoung and Lancaster.. but I mean maybe they want to talk to the board first.. or maybe they dont need too.. the thing is.. its not just the sacking, but the appt of the interim also..

Just as long as they don't promise Young the 2027 head coach on top of being interim.. I doubt they are doing that without serious discussion with all parties.

How can Craig Young be involved in the decision when his son is one of the assistants. It's a conflict on interest. No more multiple family members at our clubs unless they're twins lol.

Craig should've been punted long time back too. Especially after that letter head fiasco.

richo just came out 2nd best to the holman barnes group and their shit .. no way he walks eyes open into our mess
I dont think Richo would take the job without the sort of assurances that he can throw his weight around and boot key personnel out.. and I doubt we would give him that.. as we didnt last time he spoke with us.. and as we didnt when Ryles was about to sign.....

At the moment we are in a dark place.. and I'm curious how dark the club see it as, how much risk are they seeing if we don't nail the next few decisions?

To me we are on a bit of a knife edge even after Flanno goes... I could see us going to a 'way' darker place if we are not very very careful.. I always foresaw that our future hinged on building from the unexpected success of 2024, and we completely did not do that... and the roster gap between 16th and 17th is becoming a gulf as a result.....we need to keep it manageable.. and we need to retain our best juniors.

Richo's record is incredible though.. 3 struggling clubs all successful now... I mean noone out there has that sort of success.. and he is literally on the market as we speak.

Yes, we need a person who can generate success.

Another question burning my little brain. Whose decision was it to give the coach the extension? Will those involved also come under scrutiny or as I have personally seen before they find a table to hide under until they can find a scapegoat to take the fall.

What was also written into the contract that was performance based and what was the financial penalty for failing to meet those objectives.

I’m pretty sure, Rev, that Lancaster is still chair of the St George Illawarra football club board, and that Craig Young is one of the St George Leagues Club’s nominees. Lancaster may have WIN Corp’s authority to sign off on the payout, but Young would need approval from the Leagues Club board, of which he’s also a member, if both owners are contributing.

Unfortunately, Jo, the extension was recommended by Tim Watsford, endorsed by the football club board, and then approved by the owners.

its already gone way further than what it should have Rev, just like it did with Griffin where we asked him to reapply for his job, what club does that ? I am still of the opinion that Flanno will be retained and everything else is in the too hard basket. Its just been our style for how may years now. We always make the wrong decisions and are set up at a club where the people making the wrong decisions are untouchable.
