I thought Shaylee Bent had a poor game in the final. Elsie Albert was great but really needed to play more minutes to come close to Tonegato.
The major club honour also caps off an incredible campaign for Tonegato, who additionally won the Dally M Medal (joint with Brisbane Broncos forward Millie Boyle) and the RLPA Players' Champion last week. Dragons NRLW coach Jamie Soward named back-rower Shaylee Bent as his coach's award recipient.
Bent, who has been a permanent fixture of the Red V line-up since her 2019 debut, produced another outstanding season following her Player of the Year nod last year.
St George Illawarra name joint winners for 2021 NRLW Dragons Medal
St George Illawarra NRL Women's Premiership front-rower Elsie Albert and fullback Emma Tonegato have been named joint-winners of the Dragons' 2021 NRLW Player of the Year Medal. The St George Illawarra Dragons have finalised their 2022 Women's Premiership roster with the signing of two additional players. Australian Rugby Sevens Commonwealth Games silver medallist Cassie Staples and North Sydney front-rower Tara McGrath-West complete the Dragons' squad for the upcoming NRLW campaign.
I'm not sure what's going on here. The first part of the season was classed as season 2021 and there is another round starting shortly which is classed as season 2022.
Anyway, whatever it is, hopefully they can go one step further. The Rorters backrowers and certres were really good. Not skillful but just ran hard again and again until our heroines, who replied more on speed and skill, defence broke down.
