Trial Game 1 v Knights

Kerr lead out tackle count
Not in my stats, Lawrie did. Also ran less than 10 a carry and that was only from 8 and we needed more PCMs from him as only half of what Jake H produced. If he is offloading then that is a positive as second phase play is something we have lacked and it so vital for our go forward.

Kade Reeds guts and determination to chase down a runaway Sandon Smith, proved to me he will play Firsts some time this yr. Why wait another yr, the kid is ready for the big stage now. I was one of those that has been pushing his barrel for past two yrs since I saw his emergence in the Red V jumper in Ball Cup. I have seen a heck of a lot of footy players over my yrs and the first yr I saw Kade play I knew he was special. Only very few players know how to take a game by the scruff of the neck, he did that plenty of times that first and the following year and at such an immature age.
Reed can also read the game.
I remember playing under 10's and under 11's and our coach would tell our our halfback, to read the game. I don't think I even understood what he meant back then.

Jury out?? Kerr lead out tackle count made over 13m a carry and was close to out fastest play the ball giving decent momentum and scored a try … the offload that was dropped was not his fault but his first carry wasn’t great … 15 seconds poor the rest very good …
I have a feeling Kerr is going to be one of those players (a bit like Kyle, Feagai and a few others if I thought about it) that seem destined to go thru their career without being respected at the red v.. with feagai, I think its not enough highlight reel moments to swing fans who have a rusted on view that just cant shift... whereas someone like Sloan had years of grace with the same fans.. its very hard to change that initial snapshot fans take of players.

Ryan Hutchinson forgot how to grow. Looked a real prospect when he played against kids his own size and age. But now is far too small for a middle, so where does he play given we have a plethora of other bigger more agile middle kids ..

Sloan safe as houses under the hi ball, sound returning too, 9 tackles, but what has happened to guy that used to be so elusive, could blitz a defensive line with a swerve or step then be sway in a flash.

Oh yes. A very rare trait. Best I ever saw at that was our legend, Johnny Raper. Still reckon his mauling of the Poms in Swinton in '63 is the single best performance on a footy field, definitely in a Test, I have seen. Only on replay. Eddie Waring must've been so pissed off and tongue tired having to call the Roos 12 tries, most of them orchestrated by 'Chook'.

I thought Kerr was very good. His defence was first class and he made some strong runs, often poking his nose through the line and getting quick play the balls. I couldn't help thinking how much he had improved since his last stint with us.

Finau blew his chance, barely a dummy half scoot, less tackles than he needed to make and lacked organising skill. Fagalilo looks far better in all categories but unfortunately copped a HIA. What is latest on Liddle?

Yeah, Sloan in particular was disappointing. I'm a fan of his and was hoping he would've killed it in a trial against a lot of reserve graders. But it was the same old Sloan. For all his pace and deceptiveness, he just jogs the ball back into the defensive line and quickly submits in the tackle. He never looked threatening with the ball and almost bombed the one try he did score. I also thought he could've scored another but seemed to go out of his way to avoid a collision.

This trial was the perfect opportunity for him to go up a gear and impress, but it didn't happen and I now think it will never happen, at least in the NRL. What a waste of a lot of God-given talent.

Anyone else feel like sloan and ct were going through the motions a bit? I hoped they'd be a bit more energetic with their carries.
I thought CT was alright, but the more I read the more I think it was just me lol.. he had some really strong carries out of trouble.. he may well be going through the motions though if he knows hes not going to be one of the 2 starting wingers...

Longterm im not a fan of big wingers, never liked any of the big guys we've had over the years.. not in the modern game with all the athletes, we need guys who can go vertical.. it turns a half-chance into a try every damn time.. its a cheat code to get over the defender.. but until such time that we actually have some legit wingers.. im alright with CT but by no means should he have a mortgage on it like last year.. and Feagai might well be his replacement.. this again assumes Val is fit.

I think that Kerr will be better as the season gets going. He has become more resilient from his time at the Dolphins under Bennett and Woolf. He is taking the ball up stronger and has been quite effective in defence and will improve.

There have been many who have rated Reed very highly and spoke of him being our future halfback on this site on the other forum, in the coaching ranks, and whatever other social media forms. I was one of them. On the other forum, some are praising a very vocal forum member for saying Reed is our future 3 years ago. I do like that forum member too. Now we have the likes of Foran and Cronk and other media personalities talking him up.

I think he is so good he should be our starting halfback in game one of the season. But many on this site want to keep him in cotton wool, so to speak. lol

Many on this site are saying if we get off to a bad start to the season, then Flanno's job will be under pressure or he should be sacked. I say Flanno should be playing Reed at halfback from game one. Play your best team. I am pretty sure Flanno sees Reed as our future halfback, by the start of next season at the latest. Flanno has had to build his team and it was always going to take 4 or 5 years and he also needed a bit of luck. Signing Koloamatangi and Holmes. was a bit of luck or good fortune. The emergence of T Couchman, Egan, Stewart, Reed, Halangahu etc are all a bit of luck or good fortune.

I was talking about Mundine being our future 5/8, when he was playing centres for Harold Mathews, but I can't take any credit for him being one of the two best 5/8's we have had in the last 46 years. The other being Trent Barret. How did I get that one right? lol
Like what you are saying Frank but cant have Reed in the NRL just yet, he's not hardened enough in defense. he needs at least this year in ressies with maybe some possibility of playing a couple of games in the NRL.

You need to watch the whole replay RVH, Sloan let multiple balls bounce, overall he was pretty disappointing, its his last year I'm afraid.
