So no Lomax in 26 man team
No Hunt, De Belin, Sims, Su'a, Bird either. Looks like around half of the players who are certain to be in the team round 1, aren't playing. Not a bad thing. I was interested in:
21. Josh Coric
22. Connor Muhleisen
23. Jackson Shereb
Young forwards who have come through the system.

Who is 24. Bailey Antrobus?

Hes actually not a bad player played 8 games in the NSW Cup team last year for us, he is a back rower, tried hard in a badly beaten team last season. Runs hard tackles well

Hmmmmm do you know how old he is?
21 year-old backrower. Been in the Dragons system for a while. I think he's another Illawarra junior. Hard to say if he's going to make it in the NRL. Josh Coric, Connor Muhleisen and Jackson Shereb will probably be in the top 30 next year. A young prop, hooker and backrower. I'd say that is exactly what the team needs for next year and I guess Griffin has high hopes for them and that's the reason, as far as anyone knows, the club aren't in the market for any other young forwards despite our pack being the oldest in the competition.

I hope that's true. I mean, I hope it's true the club has high hopes for those 3 and they'll be in the top 30 next year. If this year is out of the question.

• No Gutherson, Moses or Brown but I’m really looking forward to seeing how much Jake Arthur’s game has developed over the summer, while Reed Mahoney is back and has everything to play for this year after committing his long-term future to the Bulldogs. If Mahoney plays in that final against Penrith, I reckon the Eels win. And while a lot has been said about the players they will be losing next year, I can’t remember them going into a season with a better chance to finally end that premiership drought in a long, long time.

• The competition for the wing spots is also interesting with Haze Dunster and former Raider Bailey Simonsson named to start, with Sean Russell and Solomone Naiduki also named on the extended bench. With Maika Sivo sidelined through injury, Naiduki is another powerfully built Fijian who the club has high hopes for.

• It’s great to see Ray Stone getting a start at lock where he belongs. The poor bugger copped it for a couple of errors in that final game when he was playing dummy half last year, but in fairness he should not have been left out there as long as he was. But there aren’t many who hit harder and I reckon after signing with Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins for next year Stone’s self-belief would have to be soaring.

TRIAL LINE-UP: 1. Hayze Perham. 2. Haze Dunster. 3. Tom Opacic. 4. Will Penisini. 5. Bailey Simonsson. 6. Jordan Rankin. 7. Jake Arthur. 8. Oregon Kaufusi. 9. Reed Mahoney. 10. Makahesi Makatoa. 11. Marata Nuikore. 12. Shaun Lane. 13. Ray Stone. Interchange: 14. Mitch Rein. 15. Bryce Cartwright. 16. Sean Russell. 17. Luca Moretti. 18. Ky Rodwell. 19. Ofahiki Ogden. 20. Eli El Zakhem. 21. Brendan Hands. 22. Solomone Naiduki. 23. Matt Komolafe. 24. Josh Tuipulotu.

• Anthony Griffin is adamant he has not made a decision on who will start the year at fullback and Tyrell Sloan and Cody Ramsey are both going to get plenty of game time during the trials. While that try Sloan scored in the All Stars games typifies what a talent he is, Griffin is a massive fan of Ramsey’s give-it-everything attitude.

• The battle for spots in the Dragons’ pack will be fierce with so many experienced players in contention. I worked out the other day they have 1999 games of NRL experience in their pack, and there is going to be some disappointment come round one when Griffin names his team. So you’d imagine they’ll be pumped for these trials.

• The other interesting battle will be between Talatau Amone and Jayden Sullivan for the five-eighth position with Griffin again vowing form will decide. There was a whisper going around the Dolphins have been making some sneaky inquiries about Amone, although he is signed until the end of 2023.

Bennett won't be getting his grubby little hands on Amone until the end of 2023 at the earliest!!

Bennett already got his "grubby little hands" on an highly rated Periff half. Apparently he has huge wraps but is obviously facing a road block at Penriff. Targeting young players stuck behind relatively young but already star players is a no-brainer. A half or 5/8 at Penriff, fullback at Manly, backrower at Gold Coast, centre at Brisbane. Which team has the standout props?

Bennett won't get his grubby little hands on Amone unless he's a massive let-down.

Anyway, I hope this game is televised.

I wasn't able to see the games tonight but I read the young guys from Manly and Canberra were very impressive. It's the turn of our young guys on Sunday.

I'm a fan of Ben Hunt but the time comes when young players coming through eclipse old players on the way out. I mean, obviously, but the point is that the time may have already come for Hunt vs Sullivan. Next year, it will be almost certain. Therefore, Bennett is welcome to lay his "grubby little hands" all over Ben Hunt for next season but Amone will be staying put.

Prepare yourself for the fact Bennett won't be getting his hands, grubby or not, on Ben Hunt next year.
BENNETT PINCHES YOUNG GUN
The Dolphins have confirmed the signing of promising Penrith Panthers halfback Isaiya Katoa on a three-year deal from 2023. “The Dolphins have injected an outstanding young playmaker into their squad for their entry to 2023 NRL premiership,” the Dolphins released in a statement. Touted as a star half of the future, Isaiya Katoa has been lured from the NRL’s reigning premiers, the Panthers.

On the day of his 18th birthday, Katoa has joined the Queensland-based Dolphins on a three-year deal. In addition, the Dolphins will bypass the development contract stage with Katoa and fast-track him into the club’s top 30 when pre-season training begins in November. Katoa’s signing adds some young talent to the Dolphins’ backline roster, that includes Kiwi international Jamayne Isaako and another teenage prodigy in Michael Roberts – the younger brother of NRL speed machine James Roberts.

They will be playing behind vital enforcement in the forward pack with the Dolphins investing heavily in luring a hard-edged list that includes the Storm’s Felise Kaufusi, Jesse and Kenny Bromwich, as well as Rabbitohs’ prop Mark Nicholls.
Connor Muhleisen is also penciled in to play hooker next season. Surely someone will pick up Hunt for another 2 or even 3 years after this season. He'll be eager to go because he'll know there is no place for him at St George beyond this season. He might even go to the Shonkies. Newcastle would surely love to get him. With all due respect to our junior, Adam Clune. If we are willing to foot a significant % of his contract for the last year, someone will pick him up.

I know it's only a trial but not impressed with Souffs. Big, physical team, severely lacking skill.

Unless Haas and Reynolds can completely turn the Broncos around, I'm not impressed. Gold Coast, hard to say. A couple of spine players but none of their big guns. Broncos were really only missing Haas and Reynolds. Staggs, one of their big guns was outplayed by an 18 year-old.

I also watched. I want Brisbane to continue to do badly like everyone else.
