Recruitment and Retention for 2026

My take is hes been better defensively than his last couple of games in 1st grade (which you would expect anyway), but has still been out shined by Glover in attack for the most part. His support play has netted him some tries and his kicking has been ok, but wouldnt say hes getting re-called anytime soon until he's got his confidence up or something forces a change.
outshined by glover, either glover is killing it or illias isn't good.

Hard-working Dragons forward Tom Eisenhuth is set to retire from rugby league, effective immediately.

The 32-year-old played every game for the Dragons last season and was among the club's most consistent players in a disappointing year.

But this year, a series of injuries, including a concussion in the trials, have made it difficult for the former Junior Kangaroos forward and he is expected to formally announce his decision to hang up the boots in the next 24 hours.

He is held in high regard within the Dragons ranks and is hopeful of getting a coaching or junior development role at the club

He was one of those forwards every pack needs. A no nonsense player who knew his limitations but did his best everytime he pulled on a 1sts jumper. Good solid defender

I'm excited with the roster spots remaining, hope we take a risk with any immediate signing. I'd be disappointed if it was another filler, we've already got enough with klemmer, guler, allan etc. I'd love for it to be a highly touted youngster who hasn't kicked on at another club. No idea who though.

No doubt Tom could have been really useful for us this year, even as injury cover.. do a lot of the tackling work so Jack and Tonga and co can rip and tear.. but in the end Stewarts debut was really well timed, because hes picked up that same defensive load.. but he is still a rookie..

“At least 24 Top 30 players must be contracted by 1 November, 28 Top 30 players by the Monday prior to Round 1 and 30 Top 30 players by 30 June"
So according to this quote (which I found googling) basically the 30 has to be locked by June 30.... it seems that if we dont have 2 externals lined up, we literally must upgrade from internally.. so either way there will be 2 more (or more) in our Top30 in the next month or so.

I wish TE all the best and thank him for his services. What makes the club think that he will be a good coach, just asking,

sounded like TE has some interest in charity work, so maybe a gig there.. i often wonder about 'jobs after football' like there wouldnt be enough jobs to go around, but nice to give em even a contract of some sort perhaps.. just to ease them into the real world as it were.

Dragons have started a support network which I think is led by Chris O'Keefe & a few others business, media etc types. Basically, a networking opportunity for players & would involve stuff regarding career post footy. I think we should be leveraging the wide range of high profile supporters in this way. Imo it's another recruiting tool.

In the AFL a few clubs have this type of post career network which incorporates ex-players & high profile supporters. I think the Roosters would be good in this area in the NRL & obviously the Broncos.

Braith Anasta, former Roosters player and player manager said on live TV last year, there is an understanding the Roosters board will set Roosters players up for life after football. The most blatant salary cap cheating. My theory is that is why the Roosters had to let go of so many players over the off season. The NRL warned them if they are caught there is going to be hell to pay.

This Dragons thing doesn't sound like that. As far as I can see, there are no guarantees for anyone to be set up for life or anything else. It's just giving them skills for life after football.

He could've meant giving them skills rather than financial rewards.

Everyone knows Rorters are as crooked as a dogs hind leg but I think they have "their people" high enough in the NRL admin they don't have to worry about Rorting. It also looks to me like they decided they have to go backward before they go forward. A lot of young players in that team and even though I haven't looked into it, I bet their ressies team is also very young. They have a big forum called "The Chook Pen". I have enough self respect not to leave a link or go there myself but if you did, I'd bet what I'm saying is true.

Flanno should be offering Pahulu a 3 year deal. Get it done, 2 year offer probably wont work especially if a couple of other clubs are sniffing around. No mucking around, 3 years, about 1.4, 1.5 hopefully gets it done and maybe even grab him before June 30
These 5 probably aren't needed next year.
  • Klemmer
  • Lawrie
  • Gular
  • Fifta
  • Sele
Wouldn't mind keeping Klemmer for one more year if Gular, Sele, or Lawrie can be picked up by another club or the ESL. So there will certainly be a need for props next year as well.

Props or middle forwards would probably be:
  • Stewart
  • T. Couchman
  • R. Couchman
  • JDB
  • LPT
  • Liu

Guy called BigRig on another forum is sort of a 50/50 with his rumours, Justa might argue a 5/95 kind of accuracy :p, but im sure a lot of the dump he just gave us will be based on something (most of it seems obvious, but couple are interesting):
  • Flanno looking at bringing another forward in before June 30 , heard Marty Taupau is who he is after for 6 months also interested in Kenny Bromwich but Taupau more likely
  • Club still negotiations to release Finau Latu to Doggies in either player swap or for a fee
  • Club currently In talks with Souths regarding keeping Ravalawa there for the final year of his contract
  • Club was briefly interested in bringing in Daniel Atkinson early but that now won’t happen
  • Jacob Halangahu a chance to upgraded to top 30 immediately
  • Club had Informed Michael Molo , RFM and Villiami Fifita that they will not be re-signed
  • Club to decide to keep 1 of either Sione Finau or Corey Allan on a 1 yr deal
  • JDB to re-sign on 1 yr deal
  • Club yet to decide whether to re-sign David Klemmer
  • Jacob Liddle to re-sign until 2028
  • Club is extremely cashed up for 26 and is attempting to be very active in the market for forwards
  • Also heard the club is set to offer a 2 yr deal to Titans Prop Josiah Pahulu

Should I bother lol
I think most of it has been covered as already know rumours or just dribble.
There really isnt anything in the whole post except the "set to offer" Pahulu deal which is really isnt anything either.

If this guy had any info why didn't he report
Liddle talking to Manly
Sloan told free to look elsewhere
Our meeting with Sandon Smith, which is slightly more interesting then "set to offer.

I think Sandon is checking in with all suitors currently, they have him going to NQLD in an article today, so it probably depends if hes wanting to move city or not. Interesting to see how serious we are with our offer, obviously he would be demanding the 7 jersey.. hes also a pretty damn good goalkicker too, I mean so is Val, but its good to have more than 1 option, and hes younger too.

Well he is a Central Coast boy so living down in the gong would be pretty similar. Hopefully that helps
