I agree the forwards need to make meters , but gee our lot are way too slow doing things , playing the ball Lawrie always gets rolled over ...... Said before the game has changed need big fast Athletic players that can step (not just run in a straight line) right across the park ....... Then 3 players that are quick thinking and can control the game ....... The Power game that Flanno is trying to play is done and dusted ........ Their young half had a field day ........ Where do we go from here ? I'd be trying Gutho at 7 , Holmes at fullback , Suli although he doesn't do it for me , in the centre with Allan if available , Cook to lock , Liddle to start the game at 9 ........ Definitely need to try something , because it ain't working ........
Not a bad idea at all but first I'd give Ilias a chance to see what he can do with LKT. Also Cook not lock. We have Stewart, JDB and Couchman. Lock is one of the few positions we have plenty of quality options in.

The good thing about last night is we can't complain about Liddle getting too few minutes.

Look last night was heartbreaking for those of us that love this club. Nobody likes to be handed a footballing lesson like that whether you are playing 1st grade or U16.

To my eye last night and very early on was our inability to make metres in the ruck against a engine room that on paper we at least matched. We'll history shows we were not.

I first became involved in the game in the 70s. And yes the game has changed but honestly one thing hasn't. If your engine room is not consistently making the advantage line and laying the platform it won't matter what quality players you have outside that group.

You can have your Ferrari's waiting to razzle and dazzle but if your engine is actually a 4 cylinder hiding under your bonnet you will and can only go so far.

I hope that last night may have been the penny has dropped moment where the coach/ mechanic looks under the bonnet and removes that old engine.

Personally I would now bite the bullet and start young LPT, just for his size and enthusiasm, time for Sele/Guler to return if available and get young Couchman back in the middle.

The tinkering with old engine parts should stop, hence no more starting Lawrie as our run on prop. I'm sure the coach is aware that he has to change the engine room and I'm sure he will.

Lawrie is cooked. He's done in first grade IMO.

Just watched the game
Nothing good to say
Across the park extremely average, our lack of depth is now showing.
Has Luch put on weight would not make FG in any other team after last nights effort.
For all of Blocka lack of impact I would like a team that has the effort of him.
.
Back to watching schoolboys footy.

For me when I was playing , the easiest players to defend were players that had no variation in their running style , straight runs , didn't have to worry about a step if you got to them before they gained momentum they go nowhere , just like our lot ........ When was the last time you seen Suli , Lawrie , Klemmer , Luciano step or change direction ....... We are too easy to defend ......... We definitely could not handle their type of players last night ........ We are far too slow can't change direction fast enough to stop a player that's steps or jinks ....... Just my take ........

I think the end often comes for these "effort players" quite suddenly. One season they are good but in the following season the game has passed them by. I think this is what has happened to Blake.
That is an interesting perspective Eric regarding effort players. I suspect that you are correct regarding their ability to consistently produce quality games. It also explains how they can produce the occasional high quality game such as Klemmer's game against the Knights.

Shane Flanagan said his team can only blame themselves for their poor performance.

No coach you are to blame over your inability to have this team playing consistently. You are unable to instill a winning psyche into our players as our last two wins before this debacle was with basicly the same 17. Also this chopping and changing and ignoring some players for lesser ones only provides us with no team cohesion.

I'm not in on the KF pile on but it's time to give Ilias a chance with LKT. The elephant in the room was Gutho's game last night. Though both had excuses due to the pathetic performance of the forwards. And when he refers to the team, I hope he is speaking as if he himself is part of the team. No faster way to lose the dressing shed. Other than maybe calling them soft. Hello Steven Price.

I am all for giving our best young players a taste of the big time. This youth policy is pretty much the only one by SF I approve of. But the last thing this club wants is to burn out these kids before they have the maturity needed to cope. There are clear signs guys like Stewart and big Loko are struggling with the pace of First Grade, plus Lawson who was overwhelmed by his opposite, specially in the air. Gutho was also ordinary airily. There is a kid in Flegg Lyric Te Moananui who is brilliant airily, best I have seen since a young Lomax.

Well now that I have calmed down, what a disgraceful effort. The thing is now that Flanno said in the presser that this is a blip on the radar and "it wont happen again" because its his job to ensure it doesn't happen again. Now that is a pressure statement considering the shape the team is in and the teams that we have to play in the coming rounds. He will have to rethink his winger situation as Lawson got showed up yesterday for the rookie he is, great debut against the Knights that put no pressure on him and played woeful, but against a pressure side like the Phins he got showed up badly and was owned by Bostock. Suli did nothing except be a battering ram and the forward pack got dominated badly, how can you have a team have more than a 1000 run meters and double the pcm's and expect anything but a flogging which is exactly what we got and duly deserved.

As for Flanno well I hope he hasn't put his foot in his mouth again, because on yesterday's effort we have a few more of same heading our way. Our pack is not settled, our backs are not settled and we are searching for a halves combination that works ffs. It spells disaster and it was embarrassing watching last night, just like ANZAC Day live. Couchman and Stewart can probably hold their heads, but the rest was shameful and an utter disgrace to the jumper. And some people wonder why I wouldn't want to see these boneheads showcase the Dragons at Vegas, the answer was provided yesterday at 8pm. Yes !!! I'm pissed off, since 2010 we have been copping this shit and I'm over it. Do yourselves a favour BOARD, sack yourselves!!!!!

Outs next week:
Lawrie, F-M, Lawson, KF, Klemmer (bench) Luch (bench).
Ins: Guler, Sele, tho like to see Jett Liu get his chance. Sloan, Finau, Ilias.
Lawson had one bad game but kept trying until the end. Both he had Gutho had nightmare nights under the high ball but with them rolling up field so easily and Lawson and Gutho having to stand under high ball with them getting a running jump, they were next to no hope. Lawson should stay! If Egan, Ryan Couchman and Su'A were available, Lawrie, Luch and RFM already wouldn't be in the 17.

Sorry to say but that pathetic decision to take the 2 from 40 m out in the 2nd minute set the negative tone for the whole game. Every other team kicks for touch and has a set of 6 attacking the opposition line but not us.
Flanno had an answer to that in the PC mate, it was a pathetic answer as far as I was concerned, but he's the coach.

We were done and dusted after 30 mins due to silly errors, slow moving forward, shoddy middle defense, jumper grabbing, giving them too much second phase. The confidence and momentum they were able to generate during that period simply blew us off the park. And for much of that 30 mins our forward leader and inspiration JDB was warming the pine. Well done Shane Flanagan.

In his presser Shane Flanagan said his team can only blame themselves for their poor performance.

No coach you shudda said the buck stops with me and I cop the blame because of my inability to have my team playing consistently and being unable to instill a winning culture into my players. I make no excuses as our last two wins before this debacle was with basicly the same 17. Also my constant chopping and changing and ignoring some players for lesser ones , plus blokes playing nervous over whether I will play them in the same position or if I will even play them again next week, only provides us with no team cohesion.
That is what you needed to be telling the league scribes Shane Flanagan..

Couchman, Stewart and LPT went ok I thought. Specially the latter 2. JDB had a rare off night.
