More unfortunate injury news with Holmes succumbing to a season ending shoulder injury. There is very little doubt now that we wont be playing semi finals football again this season.
It will be interesting to see who fills that spot, possibly Corey Allen who is off contract at the end of this season or will the coach look to the future, the other two possibilities are Feigai or Nick T, time will tell.
The coach has squeezed every last bit of talent out of our current top 21 players, he has introduced a number of game plans and attacking structures that our two previous coaches struggled to do. When these have been executed well it was exciting to watch.
Apart from the nonsensical arguments of him being involved in nepotism because his son was playing 7 he has done everything he can to make us competitive in my view as an old ressies coach.
Unfortunately for him and the loyal and now long suffering club supporters those 21 players just couldn't compete in a consistent enough manner to make the top 8.
We just didn't have the engine room or a game manager/ halfback. Hopefully that can be addressed before season 2026 kicks off in Las Vegas.
If you look at the draw realistically I can see possibly 2 more wins this season perhaps against the Rabbits and Cowboys which leaves us on 22 points. So no wooden spoon but definitely no semi finals, probably finish in 15th position which no doubt is extremely disappointing.
Another sad year for a once proud and feared club however there is light at the end of what has been a long dark tunnel with a new CEO and a new Recruitment Manager who may be able to attract the desired players in those two vital positions of prop/halfback.
Couple that with the fact that the coach blooded a number of our junior rising stars into 1sts this year which will hold them and us in good stead in 2026/2027 seasons.
I wish those players selected this week and for the rest of the season to wear the big red V the best of luck . From injuries and misfortune comes opportunities. Keep the faith.
