2025 Season - The season that was

More unfortunate injury news with Holmes succumbing to a season ending shoulder injury. There is very little doubt now that we wont be playing semi finals football again this season.

It will be interesting to see who fills that spot, possibly Corey Allen who is off contract at the end of this season or will the coach look to the future, the other two possibilities are Feigai or Nick T, time will tell.

The coach has squeezed every last bit of talent out of our current top 21 players, he has introduced a number of game plans and attacking structures that our two previous coaches struggled to do. When these have been executed well it was exciting to watch.

Apart from the nonsensical arguments of him being involved in nepotism because his son was playing 7 he has done everything he can to make us competitive in my view as an old ressies coach.

Unfortunately for him and the loyal and now long suffering club supporters those 21 players just couldn't compete in a consistent enough manner to make the top 8.

We just didn't have the engine room or a game manager/ halfback. Hopefully that can be addressed before season 2026 kicks off in Las Vegas.

If you look at the draw realistically I can see possibly 2 more wins this season perhaps against the Rabbits and Cowboys which leaves us on 22 points. So no wooden spoon but definitely no semi finals, probably finish in 15th position which no doubt is extremely disappointing.

Another sad year for a once proud and feared club however there is light at the end of what has been a long dark tunnel with a new CEO and a new Recruitment Manager who may be able to attract the desired players in those two vital positions of prop/halfback.

Couple that with the fact that the coach blooded a number of our junior rising stars into 1sts this year which will hold them and us in good stead in 2026/2027 seasons.

I wish those players selected this week and for the rest of the season to wear the big red V the best of luck . From injuries and misfortune comes opportunities. Keep the faith.

Well said mate. Hopefully these young fellas that are getting a taste kick on for 2026. Nick and LPT 18/19. One of them should be on the bench instead of Lawrie but that’s just my opinion
Nick needs to come into the team next week. LPT as well but his age in the middle it's hard. It's not the worst thing if he goes back for "a rest" in reserve grade. Lawrie needs to stay in reserve grade with Sele or even Liu in if LPT is rested.

My gut tells me that the Dragons may concentrate on our KOE team. I believe that they are a good chance of playing against the Warriors in the GF

Wow the Titans are giving it to the Warriors at home, with the Eels winning yesterday and if Titans get up, well you know where that puts us, right in the sights of the wooden spoon !!!
That is what I am predicting will finally happen to us Justa. A first for Flanno and a first for the joint venture club. Everything hinges on how many games the Bunnies win and the Titans in the next 6 games. I'm not expecting us to win another game this year I'm sorry to say, however the wooden spoon could be determined when we meet the Bunnies. That is the team that I think we can only beat.

I think your right. Even at the lowest times of Price and Griffin in particular, this is a low we never reached. But still, incredibly a lot of fans still support Flanno.

Surely as fans we deserve better than to be talking about the wooden spoon. This has been the subject over the last few years now, what a total embarrassment for this once mighty club

He's done what I thought was almost Impossible. Make us worse than Griffin.

I'm so patient I'm still in favour of him starting next year but Kyle has gotta go. Not in reserve grade but out! Put him in reserve grade and Flanno will recall him at first chance.

Finau needs to be retained.

Seasons come and go. So do coaches. What is up your sleeve Mr Flanagan. You know that wins will be so much harder now with all of the injuries and not only have the injuries affected the first grade results, they are eroding the lower grades of decent players and as such those lower grades will not be as strong as they are needed to be heading towards the finals.

My prediction is that the Panthers and the Bulldogs will fight out the grand final this year. The Panthers will be going for 5 straight wins. We on the other hand look destined to fight it out with Souths for the wooden spoon. :(

I think Canberra v Melbourne.

From my personal experience momentum is a really important factor coming into the tail end of a long season. Another big issue is how physically and mentally well off your team is, injuries and suspensions can cruel your season.

With those issues in mind do not be surprised if the Panthers make another GF.
