2026 pre-season

Toby Couchman would have got it if he didn’t bust his shoulder IMO. Val was excellent this season too. Cowboys fans acted like we were signing a reserve grader ffs. He just defended better here because Todd Payten has always coached defence to be optional
IMO JDB should have got it. 100% effort week in week out. Won’t like it watching him run around for Parra but we needed the space.

I don't understand what makes people think Gutho could make it in the halves or centre and Flanangan could be a decent hooker/14 at this stage of their careers. They are both veterans. Big ask to expect Gutho to be able to successfully move and I don't see what it is in Flanangan's game that makes the CEO or anyone else think he could make it as a hooker.
I don't think Gutho would be any good as a centre but in the halves, he reminds me of one Ben Hornby who didn't do too badly moving to the halves relatively late in his career. Good communication, good defence, good running and passing. Not sure what his kicking game is like. I guess not very good otherwise he'd have done more of it last season.

As for Kyle as a 14 coming on to play hooker, he kicks a bit and runs a bit tackles relatively well, is a bit of a talker. All things which on paper should make him ideally suited to hooker. Doesn't have speed off the mark but Robbie Farah and Cameron Smith didn't either. All I'm saying is that I hope he gets the chance in NSW Cup early in the season so if or when Liddle or Cook are injured, he is ready to step up.

But he'll start at 5/8 and if we start poorly, that is going to be all the news.

Not a bad idea but I don't think Gutho's passing game is up to scratch as a half. He has a good short pass but I don't see him making many good cut-out passes. He's good at fullback for another season and then lets see where things stand.

IMG_2339.jpegListen to how Mick Ennis talks about us, Lara Pitt a dragons fan as well so it’s very pro dragons apart from Anasta who Lara even joked Braith ‘loves’ the dragons

Every interview I’ve heard with Mick Ennis the last couple weeks he’s talking it up and says how much he’s loved it. It’s not huge but good to hear none the less

I started watching it on youtube then saw Anastas face, and I had to close the browser...

Its good that Ennis is happy, I just hope we have a positive year and he stays on.. a tough year or 2 and I think he moves on... I think he could be a great addition to our coaching staff..

Interesting to note about Ennis's coaching aspirations, if he makes a great assistant it could be the handover at the Dragons when Flanno's time is up. He seems very astute and connected with the players.
I'd say almost certainly he is doing what I wish every young coach (hello Dean Young) should do.. which is go and get a few years under half a dozen great coaches.. can even spend time under a great rugby coach or in the UK potentially... but do something... get a huge breath of experience so when you get that shot.. ur actually ready for it.. it only comes once.. there is 0 rush.. you can be an assistant for decades.. look how in demand those coaches who have done their apprenticeship.. they can sit back and wait for the right opportunity.

So I reckon Ennis will be here for 1-2yrs, hes already spent time at manly and i think hes done roles at the raiders and potentially others im not aware of.. diversifying his experience.. wouldn't think he would be ready to go straight to head coach in 1-2yrs.. but its not out of the question.

I’m almost certain he’ll he appointed the Manly Head Coach when Seibold is sacked at some point this season

Ennis is too respectful to take the job directly handed over if Flanno was sacked IMO

obviously I don’t see the inner sanctum of Ennis and how he operates day to day but from everything seen and heard from afar he seems like he’s got a lot going for him.

Hearing him speak about manipulating the ruck to counteract not having big bustling forwards excites me. It’s a huge plus for Phillips/Chapman and young hookers at the club to have him in the building

Comparing Hamish Stewart to Cam Murray in his early days is a huge wrap as well, one that he wouldn’t make if he didn’t think he was a stud who could handle that sort of praise/pressure

I think Matt Ballin is the guy they would get to take over.

Though I personally think Hamish is more in the mold of Isaac Yeo than Cam Murray. That is to say, better than Cam Murray.

I was one of those people, hadn’t impressed at all from what I’d seen and he’d been rewarded with a top 30 deal

Very happy to be proven wrong, it’s a crying shame when some people can’t admit their wrong about something or acknowledge something when new information comes to light

Im in that camp now with Heidke/Daniel Meafou who I think are studs and will excel this coming season while Hutchinson/Treweek aren’t athletic enough imo to become great NRL players. Hopefully I’m wrong!

mate, earning the respect of others means that sometimes you have to admit when you are wrong, and who has never been wrong in their life.
