Kyle Flanagan & the coach

We had all of last year to nab one of the many halves that were available but we did not for a reason and Shane confirmed that reason in that interview. He rates Kyle as a half and as one of our better players and loves coaching him.

Nuff sed.
Who do you think we should or more pointedly could have signed?

I'm not going to go through the roster of every club. But there has been a big turnover of halves since Flanno brought his unwanted at any other club son over.

Flanno has made it clear why. He thinks Kyle is really good. One of our best.

It really seems to have come to a head now. His interviews are utterly unhinged now.
So you can't name any? lol

Halves who could have replaced Kyle? We have one signed right now. Other than that, Bud Sullivan who Flanno rejected even with Tigers paying a large part of his contract. So Wayne Bennett swooped in. Jamal Fogerty, DCE, Jonah Pezet, Tanah Boyd, Te Maire Martin, Luke Brooks, Jamie Humphreys, Ashton Ward. I don't really rate any of them but I rate them all higher than KF. Or rate any of them at this stage of the careers I should say. They all had something Kyle didn't when he dad signed him. Offers on the table.

I'm going to ignore him as long as he keeps typing "lol". If it happened a couple of times I'd just roll my eyes but he does it incessantly.

You can say whatever you please on this forum as long at is not a personal attack on another members views.

Also actually understanding what nepotism is also helps.
nepotism /nĕp′ə-tĭz″əm/

noun

  1. Favoritism shown or patronage granted to relatives, as in business.
  2. Undue attachment to relations; favoritism shown to members of one's family; bestowal of patronage in consideration of relationship, rather than of merit or of legal claim.
  3. The favoring of relatives or personal friends because of their relationship rather than because of their abilities.
  4. Favoritism shown to relatives or close friends by those in power (as by giving them jobs).

Hows this? Am I getting warm?

Straight from the Oxford dictionary. So we both agree. Now who has been intentionally kept out of first grade by Flanagan both last year and this who have better skillsets than Flanagan?

I just don't get why so many people get worked up over criticism of KF but criticism of LKT is absolutely fine.
To my old coaches eyes LKT is still learning his trade. He may well improve his skillset with experience and fitness.

Last year in attack he was sliding too much with ball in hand with nobody coming back in under him and giving the illusion that he was cramping his shoulder partner then the winger.

He appeared to lack the acceleration to take on the line and slice through.

In defence he wasn't good obviously he was targeted by the opposition and was found out a few times.

He is not lost to me as a 1st grader with natural improvement. If our 6 or 7 are injured during the game or season he has to be next in the pecking order in my view at the moment ahead of Reed.

No, not from Oxford.
I'd have gone with Ilias over KF. At least given him and LKT a chance to show what they've got without KF but it's more the players Flanno hasn't signed to take his place.

Flanno loves a team player with passion commitment and great defence, if you take away Kyle is his son, he gets that in bucket loads over a whole season with Kyle and there just isn't anyone experienced enough or good enough in our club over the last 2 seasons to be there in front of him unfortunately.

With no ball running, ball playing or kicking ability playing in the halves? Maybe that's the reason the results have been so bad.

Though "passion and committment"? Seriously? Which player in the NRL do you think doesn't show passion and committment?

I don't think Pezet would have signed with us and I am skeptical if he is top line.
I did read that we did make a play for Cherry Evans, but I don't think we were ever a chance of signing him. It probably would have only been a one year deal, which would have been good for us, while Reed developed.
I didn't want us to sign Brooks at all.
I didn't want us to sign Fogerty. He would have been a road block for Reed.
A definite no to Boyd. He isn't first grade standard.
We let Ward go. He did look good against us last year, but is very light framed. He may be Souths first string halfback this year and do well.
Jamie Humphreys was going alright for Souths last year before getting injured. I would have liked us to have signed him. He can also cover hooker.
Te Marie. Is he even a halfback? Again he hasn't been able to lock down a regular first grade spot after having big wraps on him.
I do want better than Kyle, who I see as a stop gap until we can get better.
I have already commented on Sullivan.

Reed is the answer

Expect him to play by mid way through the season if he handles the physicality of reserve grade.

Any of the halves mentioned earlier in this thread would have blocked Reed’s progression.

Kyle will probably be shopped to Super League or accept a mentoring position in reserve grade by season’s end.

Bashing father and son doesn’t help our morale team.

I understand that the optics look bad, however Ilias and Fliver are not first grade halves and never will be.

Let’s get behind the side and support our side.

Hate the Dogs, praying for a win on Sunday.

Weak Frank. Very, very weak.

He probably won't make it but as far as skill and ability goes, he's top-notch. Just a bit too light. He makes Thurston look like JDB. But KF was on the NRL scrap heap 3 years ago. No club was interested in his services until you know what happened. At least Ward had offers.

My comment on Captain Shane's (said in an ironic way) interview was the pathetic way he was trying to hide him and KF behind the skirts of the mothers/wives, sisters/daughters of the family which is taking the piss out of our club. "Please stop! It's hurting the feelings of his mother, sisters and wife."

No Captain Shane, not stopping. Or the only thing which will make me stop is sustained success. I'm very much doubting that will come about under Captain Shane.

One more comment, the interview was about 50% about his salary cap and PED tainted success with the Shonkies. Apart from my old friend jodragon40 jodragon40, does anyone care about that nowadays? Des Hasler had way more success than Captain Shane. Does that mean he still has what it takes?
