Barrett has been a shit HC but a good attack coach.
Agree. In perfect world you hire ex players because they have turned out to be best in class so you get the best of both worlds but unfortunately not many of our ex players are in that category. Barrett however has probably done enough as an assistant coach to warrant consideration at least.

As far as the other guys like Gaz are concerned get them involved in more junior or part time coaching positions where they get to try their hand at it and you get to have a look at them. The juniors pathway should throw up plenty of opportunity for them to get involved if it's a career they want.

It's true but we already have a head coach who got the job due to his connections, not his record of achievement. That is just a fact no matter how much anyone thinks he is going to do well. So now we have such a head coach and a GM of football from the same team, they simply can't hire Barrett as an assistant. No way. If they do, may as well get Coops in as kicking coach, Sowie as wrestling coach, Gaz as forwards coach and so on.

So far DY hasn't proven to be much of a coach but he gets high marks for his Machiavellian political maneuvering. He knew old Flanno was out of his mind, utterly delusional in regard to KF's game and ability. Yet according to old Flanno who subconsciously knew he was delusional, it was DY insisting Kyle was playing well and was one of our best and so on.

The official tenure of Dean Young is off to a very bad start. I'm not surprised. I know we are handicapped in attack with a slow as wet week fullback and the worst halfback in the competition and possibly the worst 5/8 but there is no excuse for allowing them to score 38 points.

I think yesterday showed some effects from a tough game vs the warriors. Flat and out of juice late in the game. Got to ride out the rest of the season and bring on 2027.

Analysis: They’ve had their Mad Monday plans booked for a long time. It’s been argued by most that they’ve improved under Dean Young but where’s that evidence? Their defence is slightly worse than it was under Shane Flanagan and it will be tested this week against the Dolphins. They’re eight points behind the Tigers, who have a bye to come, so the wooden spoon looks theirs.

Someone in the media speaking the truth on Dean.

Anderson has gone out and bought an entire spine 1-6-7-9 - Has a club ever done that?

Young will continue to get a free pass because of the squad (rightly or wrongly) ... so we will go round in circles until we see the first few rounds for next year.

That being said, something has to give with respect to our right edge defence.

True but he didn't get the job based on any kind of objective analysis of his record. If Creagh, Watsford and etc see something in him, I hope they are right. But he doesn't deserve any grace period. Like can't expect fans to go easy on him until the second half of next season. Now is his very generous grace period. We should expect dramatic, sustained improvement from round 1 next season.

I think he deserves an open mind from us supporters, especially being the club legend he is.

Many were willing to give Flanagan much more time and patience than he deserved.

I'm prepared to give the Big D at least a season before I pass judgement.
I reckon he needs to have the team humming from round 1. Now is the period where he can get away with stuff as he is still learning the ropes.

The proof of the pudding or should I say the proof will be in the pudding or is it something else? Anyway, I think that there will be a marked increase of good results in 2027. Even if we came 15th next year its better than 17th like this year. Only kidding. I'd like to think that Dean will be good as head coach next year.

Yep, give him a full off season, potentially some experienced assistant coaches around him and I think we can expect a massive improvement.

I haven't read enough reactions to the team's performances under the Big D this far (on this forum) but judging by other things I've read, it seems like most are very quick to dismiss the Big D.

IMO he needs an off season to at least get the team playing the game plan he wants and out of the outdated five hit up and a nothing kick Flanno ball strategy. That's why we see one or two weeks of noticeable improvement followed by one or two weeks of same shit different day.
