Recruitment and Retention for 2026

Have to think Hannay as the titans coach would make Tino and JC feel a lot better about staying put.. assuming they haven't unofficially committed themselves elsewhere.

I still am very curious what they have in mind for JC.. 950k a season for their 3rd choice fullback.. it can only be for him to play 7, so im rly curious if Hannay is as passionate about him staying at that value.. I also cant believe how easily they can pay big dollars for guys like RCG and JC on top of guys like Tino/MoFo/AJ/Kini etc.. even excluding the 1mil for Fifita which assume will be gone.
I guess they will have JC play 5/8 and move on Brimson.

I don't think we should rush to get a half until we've seen how Atko goes in that position, patience might be our best bet atm. Atko could kill it or be a bust in the halves (hope not), ditto with LKT. We've got Reed coming through who looks like a genuine halfback, it's natural for him unlike JC who imo is still learning that position & might be a trap right now at 900k. All this goes out the window if there's someone elite realistically available to us.

Imo nailing recruits for positions that we know we're lacking would be a good move this off-season. Imo a good winger, rep quality starting prop & potentially a fullback as Gutho replacement. Exciting times with all the youngsters coming through & good experienced players too. We've backed in the coach which provides stability for the team, got some experienced heads with recruitment & FO.

For the first time in a LONG time, I feel like we're planning for sustained long term success rather than just taking it year by year.

So now the general consensus is to that Gutherson needs to go? At least from fullback. Gee that's rich. I was slammed for slamming his signing at the start of the year. Good player but too slow nowadays and only slowing more. Though he was better than I thought he would be. I always said he's a good player but not fast enough for a modern top line fullback. Though if Flanno went to the market for a few speedy outside backs rather than CT for example, that would have suited Guthersons game. Nothing wrong with CT. Outside speedy centres, he'd be really good.

LKT was a huge disappointment last game. 4 steps forward over the last weeks and 3 steps back last game.

Gutho needs to transition to a halfback like Ben Hornby did. The timing of his retirement would match Kade Reed ready to hopefully step into first grade. Though I don't know what the plan for Atkinson would be. Hasn't he played fullback a bit?

Seems to be the case generally but I don't agree. He missed the tackle last week in a game that was already lost in a year already out of finals contention and suddenly he's got to go. Seems very harsh. Though if an upgrade was available, DA would be incompetent not to have a go.

I assume Reed would be playing cup next year, maybe the odd game in firsts if there is an injury. I suppose its no use imagining how these players will go until they are actually in that position. I suppose the other side of the coin is these players have to be ready to play NRL especially physically, and not having the pressure of being the golden Saviour, aka bud Sulivan.

Watching that weasel Hunt on 100% footy saying how let down by the Dragons he felt. I can assure you Benny Boy, with the millions you took out of the club you didn't feel too let down then did you !!! And what did we get, years worth of being a ME player and not wanting to help the team out, dictating to coaches what position you are going to play, and then the best of all, declaring that you will be leaving the team whilst on state of origin. I'm so glad you never got to do a lap of honor, it would have been embarrassing for you. Enjoy jumping off your wallet and supporting that other flog Lomax who didn't want to play on the wing, but where is he playing now ?

I couldn't listen to it. I'm so over anything that comes out of his mouth. If he did say that he was let down by the lack of success at the Dragons, multiply that by 1000 Benny boy particularly about you and your time here.
You haven't exactly set the world on fire Benny boy, going by some Bronco's mates comments about you.

Tell you what Dave, made my blood boil listening to him saying he felt so let down by the Dragons lack of success.
The lack of success stems from BHunt's lack of ability to ice most games when he held the half back position which he didn't want to relinquish and help out by playing the hooker role when we could have used Bud Sullivan a lot more of the time who could have partnered Amone in the halves. While he didn't have the success, he certainly got paid well for the 7 uneventful years we had him for.

Well done for having the patience to listen. I couldn't.

He was just never a good playmaker. He was a good individual player trying and failing to be a playmaker.

Would love a bmoz type winger
So would I Dave. He and his brother Josh I was hoping to be lifers at the Dragons but as Josh couldn't get a spot because we had Gasnier and Cooper he left us for the Bulldogs for a long time - 10 years in fact. Both great in attack and defence. Brett wanted Josh to be re-signed by the Dragons for 2016 but the Dragons didn't want him back so Brett went to the bloody Dogs to join Josh there for 4 years then to the Roosters for 3 years and Josh went to the Sharks for 2 years then joined Brett at the Roosters for a year. Don't know if ever the South Coast would have another Brett coming to the Dragons

I think Bmoz is still running around for the Roosters as a trainer, makes you wonder why we wouldnt have him doing the same thing. Alas the closed door sessions that happen that bewilder every fan.

Yes Brett is still helping out at the Roosters as an assistant. Most probably as part of the deal after footy. I recall that he said that the Eastern Suburbs Club is the best run club he has come across and is part of. I think the Dragons would have liked to have someone like Brett helping out but I don't think Brett would have taken up anything if offered. Once he left us that was it. Same as Josh.

I remember the twins when they were about 6 years of age when they used to come with their Dad - Slippery Morris to a club every second Sunday when I played drums for a band at a Club in the Sutherland area. Got to speak to Slippery a fair bit and the twins were playing in the kiddies league but certainly blossomed after being given the chance to show their abilities in the lower grades at the Dragons.

Besides Nightingale, Creagh and Dean Young I don't think there are any players having anything to do with the Dragons - someone on here might know of another. We had Sowie of course for a bit as the women's coach.

Someone with his ability but not sense of loyalty.

And Soward left on bad terms as well, lets not all forget Craig Young :)
