2025 Round 1 team

imo no point predicting the left winger, see who looks the goods over the preseason, CTui, Sloan, Allan, Feagai, Ramsey, all could compete for it in theory.. if we dont sign JAC or a rugby player etc. I am assuming SFinau is right wing (though he can play either iirc).

Allan in particular I still think is a complete unknown.. I havent seen him play in years..

But also Allan/Feagai/Ramsey are our only centre depth coverage, so maybe they are better off focussing on those positions...
I read somewhere Ramsey is going to be medically retired. Or at least miss all of next season as well.

Its interesting.. keep hearing both sides.. my best guess was they wont make a call until 2025, he gets 1 pre-season, and can test him in some nsw cup..

But we rly do need a couple of Top30 spots back asap.. so if he really is no chance.. then doing it sooner means we can sign the Douiehi etc..

I did feel that the whole 2025 deadline was unnecessary... why have any deadlines.. maybe 2026 would be better.. maybe another year wont rly help.. no idea..

Often times, when someone, particularly a young person gets over serious illness, their physical condition bounces back to be better than ever. Cody might come back 10kgs heavier and even a bit faster. Which would make him possibly a gun winger or centre. Don't think he has good enough ball skills to be a top fullback.

The Ramsey situation is difficult on many levels.
As I have reported before he has increased his training and contact through the season.

He may be able to play some kind of football next year but can he play for 80min, can he play every week, can he play NRL. I would suspect no.

His condition makes it hard for him to eat and digest food that gives you bulk so he will always have trouble gaining weight.

Top 30 last I spoke to Webb the club was in talks to have him removed from top 30.
The big issue is we can't medically retire him because that ends his chance of ever playing.
So it's up to NRL to approve a deal where we still pay hom from club money.

Nice the club looks after him financially. Hopefully that will and should give the club good credibility in the player market.

  1. Tyrell Sloan
  2. Christian Tuipulotu (hope not. He should be training to play prop) AGREE
  3. Valentine Holmes
  4. Moses Suli
  5. Mat Feagai (no) Sione Finau
  6. Kyle Flanagan (If he just catches and passes or runs himself without looking like passing but doesn't make many mistakes, Flanno will pick him.)
  7. Ben Hunt--Sayonara sook Give us a decent replacement BOD.
  8. Damien Cook- Liddle shud start, one of our best last season
  9. Jack de Belin- prefer Jack was back at lock
  10. Luciano Leilua- only if he has shed some kilos
  11. Jaydn Su’A
  12. Blake Lawrie (Funny joke. Toby C will be 13 and Ryan C 17. Lawrie will be in Cup.)
  13. Jacob Liddle - Cook
  14. Hame Sele
  15. Raymond Faitala-Mariner (I hope it's LPT or Stewart or Latu or Halaganhu but judging from Flanno's first year, it'll be RFM) Doubt Loko Jr or Finau Latu will even play before the first 15 games, if at all. Jake is a year

  1. Toby Couchman- need to find room in the starting 13 for Toby. Ryan at #17.

BUST SIGNINGS

KYLE FLANAGAN (Bulldogs to Dragons)

Like the Dragons, Flanagan had a solid season, but he hardly lit the house on fire as a playmaker alongside Ben Hunt.

The 26-year-old showed promise at the Bulldogs after being switched to dummyhalf, but his return to the halves under dad Shane Flanagan in the five-eighth role wasn’t exactly a raging success.

Hunt has carried the playmaking duties at the Dragons on his own for years and despite some good moments from Flanagan, he largely had to do the same in 2024.

Hunt finished with the most try assists in the NRL with 34, while Flanagan had just five in 20 games in 2024 to go with five tries, six linebreaks and 20 tackle busts.

The fact the club are even considering not extending Hunt is borderline negligent, given the other halves options they have on their books.

Flanagan’s season finished on a sour note as he was suspended for biting Bulldogs skipper Stephen Crichton.

Flanagan’s best position is hooker and he is a better runner of the football than a playmaker, so the Dragons would be wise to switch him back to dummyhalf and go to market for a playmaker.

Someone in the media finally said it. But he will start round 1 in the halves. Flanno will make sure of it.
