Dogs 1st try poor defensive read by Feigai we simply didn't number up on the last, cardinal sin.
Dogs 2nd try Feigai error. Set move off the scrumbase, poor defensive reads again. Poor try to give up.
Dogs 3rd Feigai missed tackle poor again defensive read came in.
Been doing same since he came to us. Jeez it aint rocket science, just stay on your wing and mark your man. How many years have we had him and he has not learnt this yet.

Yep add their respective 38 and 44 tackles and this pair led the pack. Toby now appears to be growing into the bookend role, but looks like his brother has a season ending ACL injury. Rotten luck if so. Suppose it does now open a spot for another. Not saying LPT tho as he is a little raw to take a permanent bench spot at present, as is FL. Not Egan, Nick T? Flanno will want Eisenhuth you can lay bets.
Will be interesting to see how the coach responds

Probably right but that bookend combination just aren't big enough to consistently bend or get to the advantage line

Talking about if Guler was to be suspended possible JDB/Couchman starting props next week
Gular will be available but have serious doubts he is a better option than Blocka or Sele. His post contact metres from last night might be in negative territory based on the first 60min. I didn't watch the last 20.

Our 1st try good structure good combination Holmes/CT should be a good source of points this season.

Dogs 2nd try Feigai error. Set move off the scrumbase, poor defensive reads again. Poor try to give up.

Dogs 3rd Feigai missed tackle poor again defensive read came in.

1st and 3rd tries both Suli fault

  1. Clinton Gutherson 6/10 Good but not an elite fullback.
  2. Mathew Feagai 4/10 Mistakes and no impact in attack.
  3. Moses Suli 6/10 some good things and no mistakes.
  4. Valentine Holmes 5/10 not his fault. He went looking for the ball but service from the inside was bad.
  5. Christian Tuipulotu 7/10 3 tries and a lot of strong carries and PCM.
  6. Kyle Flanagan 3/10 What is his job? No kicking in general play, no playmaking, no running game. Also no mistakes but is that enough?
  7. Lachlan Ilias 2/10 had a shocker.
  8. Toby Couchman 6/10 Was one of the better forwards.
  9. Damien Cook 5/10 Liddle is better but he was ok.
  10. Emre Guler 4/10 No impact with the ball. Need more from a prop.
  11. Luciano Leilua 7/10 Wish he could play like that for the entire 80min like the best edge backrowers.
  12. Jaydn Su’A 6/10 Good but not an elite edge backrower.
  13. Jack de Belin 6/10 How many minutes was he on for? I think he had to stay on longer due to Ryan C.

  14. Jacob Liddle 7/10 why was he only on for about 20min?
  15. Ryan Couchman NA
  16. Raymond Faitala-Mariner 4/10 I know he came on but can't remember him doing anything.
  17. Hamish Stewart 5/10 Not bad for a first game. Will only get better. But needs a few more kgs before he's a really good prop.
  • Shane Flanagan 2/10 How long is he going to put up with this halves combo? Why was Liddle only in for about 20min? Why was Feagai selected in front of Finau and Sloan?

1st and 3rd tries both Suli fault
Suli was ok but he is another of these imports who really get the red carpet treatment from fans and commentators. Any criticism of him is angrily shot down. Su'A is another. Also ok yesterday but I think fans can and should expect more. First game of the year and they were both ok but I don't see why criticism of them isn't allowed.

  • JDB 8/10 and once again, Dragons best. What more can you ask of him? Runs plenty of metres, makes plenty of effective tackles, misses very few, good passing game, does it for a very long time for a middle forward, makes very few mistakes, gives away very few penalties.

One other thing that did stand out to me that I failed to mention was the defensive line speed, or lack of. As you may know though one reason why, is your backpedalling, not set, so cannot physically move up quickly in 1 line. The stats showed we avg 38m a set v Dogs 47m a set, so had momentum, just my views.
Never seen this stat before but looks bad. Couchmans injury contributed.

I'm an.old stats coach loved my stat's used them extensively back in the day. So a worst stat was we made 166 runs for 1,447m v Dogs 188 for 1,822m so they had more possession overall but made more ground.

Settle down CT, look at the scoreboard.

Was at the game on that side and just wanted to call this out and give my perspesctive as I've seen a lot of negative commentary on social media about the celebrations, particularly the first one. At that point we'd been getting pumped for a solid 20 min, Dragons crowd which had been roaring most of the way through the first half had all but died, Dogs fans were breaking fences (literally) getting their chants going - After we scored that he goes straight up to fence amps up that members corner then goes the entire way around infront of the benches amping the crowd up while Holmes is getting ready. From that moment the entire crowd was right back in the game, so as a fan I loved every bit of it cause the atmosphere lifted dramatically and we started wrestling the game back. I know it doesnt show on the broadcast but for me at the game its purely a positive.

Negatives for me were just the errors, way too many and some real basic ones, gave them way to many opportunities, some sloppy 1 on 1 efforts particularly the Sitili tries but the overall structures looked good. Also needed to put pressure on the Burton, it was non-existent most of the game and they were absolutely pumping Illias in return. Think if it was last year heads wouldve gone down in the second half and turned into a blowout, Gutho and a few other simply didnt let that happen, his talk on field is unreal with constant positive chat.

Lids doing Lids things just a huge lift when he came on, hoping the limited minutes was purely the concern with his hand but he was unreal. Looked like we lost a bit of momentum as well when we took luch off for RFM, he wasnt bad by any means but think another proper middle instead has more impact (again probably just the fact sele is injured) plus losing Ryan so possibly now that im thinking about it just the rotation being buggered might've played a bigger part. Still plenty of positives for me and looking forward to the Gong.

Sloan didn't play in the trials due to injury and Finau had a HIA. Might have meant no training for most of the past 2 weeks. With a good prop consistently making 10m and getting past play the balls and without Ryan getting injured, I think Dragons would have won this.

Last year in the first round Dragons flogged Gold Coast and everyone was excited. Then in the second round got flogged by the Dolphins. A win would have been nice but there is a long way to go.

Always a different perspective from watching the game on TV and actually being there. Cheers for your comments much appreciated

Watching Melbourne play Parramatta I wanted to comment on Illias. Was he trying to pick out Grubs players to kick to on the full? If so, he did a good job of it. Jerome Hughes kicks further, the ball often hits the ground and looks like Melbournes chase is better than what it was yesterday for the Dragons.
