we may never know who this 3rd bloke is.. genuinely think it was just a token interview anyway, Dean seems like he was locked from the start unless he truly blew up the 2026 squad in the meantime.

Barrett + Talau as assistants though might fit.. good chance Madge wants new blood for next year... Barrett has plenty of experience to offer in that role, and the club 'seems' laser focussed on bringing old boys home.

Trent Barrett has been a very good assistant coach but not a good head coach. I wouldn't mind him coming back to the club as an assistant. Does he have a son or daughter playing in the junior games?

To our detriment

It can be revealed former Broncos assistant coach Ben Teo had been considered for the position, but the Dragons decision-makers are wary of appointing a head coach without an acute understanding of the club’s rich nursery of talent, particularly in the Illawarra.

What a piss poor excuse, it's not like Young has any idea on our juniors

All 3 candidates are good assistant coaches

Untried as head coaches

The board was always going to appoint an old boy unfortunately

Young will be appointed

So much for a wide and thorough search

Poor Board decision making & leadership.

It’s the reason the club should hand back its NRL licence. Simply put the JV doesn’t deserve one.

Young is believed to be in a two-horse race with good mate and former premiership-winning teammate Ben Hornby, who is currently on South Sydney’s coaching staff, for the vacant head coaching position at St George-Illawarra.

Interesting ... "had been considered" is not the same as "Was the 3rd person interviewed"

I was on safari this month with an old Dragons administrator in the 90s and he told me a tale about Craig Young and his son. His son was playing HM at the time for the Dragons. He told me Young came in one day after they had played and told them take a couple of seasons off because we will only be picking juniors from the Steelers side to be promoted to JF. I have very little faith in any of the Youngs if there even is a skerrick of truth.

My head is on mars after reading that

An ‘understanding of the clubs rich nursery of talent’ means f*ck all, if you can’t coach then it means diddly squat

f*cking pathetic, this is all performative nonsense and everyone with their finger on the pulse following the club knows it. Young will be appointed within the next 2-3 weeks especially with the fixtures coming up.

If we jag a win today it’ll be announced by Monday night

It'll be a shame if DY ruins his legacy and everyone ends up hating him and his dad. I'm sure there are other positions he is well suited for. Like, if he understands about the "club’s rich nursery of talent" so well and the players love him so much, he'd be perfect for a pathways position. But I just can't see how he can turn it around and become a good head coach.

Ryan Carr did get an immediate improvement from a very poor, until then poorly coached team. DY has not done that yet it is he, not Ryan Carr who is being lined up for the head coach position! How TF does that make any sense⁉️⁉️

It is an absolute shame because looking at why we lose junior talent should be something that the club takes seriously.
But there has been nothing serious in this coach hunt ... minds were made up prior to starting with Dean to be given the gig and the charade that is a recruitment process is farcical.

This is quid pro quo board room bullshit

First, let me add the disclaimer that I'm not an expert. So no one needs to call me an idiot or whatever.

The way I see it is that by now the whole world knows we have excellent young forwards but a very, very average 1~7. A good coach would be coming up with ideas of how those forwards can not only get us in position to score but score themselves. Not by simply busting through tackles as Stewart did yesterday but some good attacking moves involving a lot of passes around the middle.

And Halangahu and LPT would be on for longer and Couchmans wouldn't be called upon to consistently play the whole 80 min or almost the entire 80. If it leads to a serious injury to one of them as a result....... I might lose it in regard to Deano.

Agree actions speak louder than words and Young is not my first choice as head coach. I mean how can you have a record such as his and actually be promoted?
