Interim Coach for 2026 - Dean Young

Line in sand moment - Flano sacked, Haran sacked - we can draw a line in that saga and at least have two conversations - how we go for the remainder of the season and the coach for 2027 thread.

What i am really keen to see now

1. How Anderson performs without Flano and his mindset about what backs/forwards/halves should be
2. The relationship between Dean Young and the juniors yet to cement themselves into 1st grade - Loko/Tsougrannis etc do we stop the exodus with this move?
3. What recruitment/retention looks like esp with the likes of Lawrie/Sloan/Guler/Sele etc
4. Team list tuesday

Love the club, will be there on Anzac day.

I have to be clear, while I don’t like this appointment and hope he doesn’t get the permanent role

I do hope we win all our remaining games and do well, if Young can get a tune out of this terrible roster and win 50% of the games I could get my head turned. Pending his coaching changes/structures and like you said Rufus how he interacts and treats the young fellas.

Realistically it was always going to be one of Young, Ennis, Talau or Hornby for the interim role. No one else is stepping into a short term role.
Hornby was never leaving Souths for a 5 month role.
Ennis: Has showed no reason why it should be him. Attack wise the team has gone backwards. Stay in your own lane buddy boy.
Talau: Would have loved to see him get it but maybe he wasn’t interested and wanted to focus on cup?? Can’t blame him, stays on as assistant for 1st grade.
Young: In my eyes he was always going to take the gig if it was offered. People getting their knickers in a knot about it, I get it. I don’t want him full time.

2 things happen: Playing group respond and a miracle happens and he pulls it off then he’s earnt it (doubtful)
Same old same old, then he’s not getting the full time gig.

That's how I see it redv13. Haven't been keen to have Young as the assistant coach defence and now wonder how he, as the head coach, will be able to turn that all around. If he has Ennis as his attacking assistant, to me it will be almost the same as it was with Flanno. Using Reed will not improve our defence but should help our attack. Would Young seek the services of Matt Cooper now that Flanno has gone? He could be the one to get our defence on track which is greatly needed.

And this is exactly what we need right now. The young blokes having hope that their hard work will pay off and they get their chance to play 1st grade.

Enough of the same old plodders that Flanno stuck to like flies on dog shit. The potential in the forward pack for 2027/28 is unbelievable but Flanno just continued to block them/piss them off/name them and not play them.

The future with KK coming on board is to lead a pack containing the Couchman boys, Stewart, Egan, Halangahu, LPT, Tsougranis, Hutchinson, Webster.

Evidently Dean Young, like with his fan base, is not loved by everyone, specifically on the Dragons Board ... the Illawarra side of the merger don't really love him while the St George side do.
This is where a dual entity club is the devils advocate when both sides of our Board are not on the same page. It means plain and simple that our club is divided. No wonder we are in such a mess. If dumping the joint venture will cure this disease then so be it, as having two sides at loggerheads is only counter productive and divisive to the smooth running of our club. The entire Board should be representing the one club and every person in it, if not and that appears to be the case, then the Chairman has to remove the rot.

Appears you agree with my view mate. You also saying dump the joint venture and play only under the Dragons banner as that is what I am alluding to? I am all for our juniors grades, from both regions, to start the change. But are the suits ready to make it permanent in all grades.

We all want what's best for the club and at the moment both sides need to get into bed with each other or nothing will change unless there is a split .........

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I respect the opinion of any Dragons fan in matters relating to the the team and club as a whole. But hasn't the negativity just exploded? At a time I'm finally feeling a little positive.

Is what I said in my above post. Just read that this division goes back at least to before Flanagan arrived as evidently the St George side of this fractured partnership did not want him appointed as head coach, but backed the other side to avoid trouble. Seems they got it spot on. So now the Saints group will want similar good will from the Gong side. So what is gonna result from this, further squabbling and continued division...

The head coach and GM of football were removed. How far did you expect it to go? As far as I know, the club is in good health financially. It's the job of the head coach and ultimately the GM of football to make sure the first grade team is competitive. They were both removed. So what's the problem? That's the way I see it anyway.

There was never a split by the board on Young being interim Coach
Just media BS lapped up by the dumb eternal whinging fans.

After the announcement was made the assistant coaches were spoken too and Young was appointed, it's as simple as that
But no let's read more into it and continue the negativity

I reckon we could with a GF and some fans will complain it wasn't by enough.

As I said yesterday enjoy the double win look for the positive not the negative.
