A big factor are all those between 20m and 40m that were previously penalties or nothing. The way the game has changed just in these two rounds, will need a rethink in coaching and players.View attachment 993
But the penalty count has remained the same so it's an overall increase.A big factor are all those between 20m and 40m that were previously penalties or nothing.
...and because of that we had to go for Flanno who wasn't wanted elsewhere as far as I know. We tread water from year to year and the cramps in the legs are getting worse. When will our misery actually end because even if Flanno goes, the cycle of rebuilding to the new coaches wants keep happening - same old same old.As far as I know, the only one who knocked us back who already had an offer on the table was Ryles.
Canberra, Melbourne, and Penrith do it the right way. We can be more like Penrith as we have a steady supply of junior talent. We need to be patient, though. The problem with coaches is that they only care about winning the next game. If they get sacked, they won't be there in 5 years to reap the benefits of a steady build up. They'll stuff up the cap by buying overpriced vets who they hope will help them win now. Then young players get squeezed out and have success at other clubs. Meanwhile you're still not good. That's why you need a GM or head of football in charge of the cap and retaining young players.Agree mate, these ra ra hype old fashion coaches aren’t up to it today IMO
I’m a fan of Holbrook and think his attacking mind is unreal, did great as roosters attack coach the last 2 seasons + revived a poor titans franchise in his short time there (yes I know it ended poorly)
I’ve said it before but I’d love us to operate like Canberra, back your young guns who you think have proven are up to it and pay them accordingly. Marquee signings are very infrequent and only when necessary not because someone’s just become available
Have they signed an older player in the last few seasons? Feels like every signing is 25 or under
The exception being Fogarty as halfback is quite unique with age and maturity pretty relevant
But refs blow 6 agains at a much lower threshold than penalties. Plus players are willing to risk a 6 again in order to slow the ruck on play one on the 30m line, but they wouldn't have risked a penalty. But the penalty count has remained the same so it's an overall increase.

Gus Gould has said this and he’s spot on, minor indiscretions punished like a penalty is a terrible system we can thank the great PVL forBut refs blow 6 agains at a much lower threshold than penalties. I reckon he was used as a scapegoat at the Titans, didn't deserve the way he got treated and nor did Arthur.Agree mate, these ra ra hype old fashion coaches aren’t up to it today IMO
