Kyle Flanagan & the coach

As far as I know, the only one who knocked us back who already had an offer on the table was Ryles.
...and because of that we had to go for Flanno who wasn't wanted elsewhere as far as I know. We tread water from year to year and the cramps in the legs are getting worse. When will our misery actually end because even if Flanno goes, the cycle of rebuilding to the new coaches wants keep happening - same old same old.

We really do need the good cattle with some stars amongst them to go with KK and several of our youngens coming through. I can't say for us to be patient as that word has been used so many times but as usual lets see what happens in the next couple of months.

Agree mate, these ra ra hype old fashion coaches aren’t up to it today IMO

I’m a fan of Holbrook and think his attacking mind is unreal, did great as roosters attack coach the last 2 seasons + revived a poor titans franchise in his short time there (yes I know it ended poorly)

I’ve said it before but I’d love us to operate like Canberra, back your young guns who you think have proven are up to it and pay them accordingly. Marquee signings are very infrequent and only when necessary not because someone’s just become available

Have they signed an older player in the last few seasons? Feels like every signing is 25 or under

The exception being Fogarty as halfback is quite unique with age and maturity pretty relevant
Canberra, Melbourne, and Penrith do it the right way. We can be more like Penrith as we have a steady supply of junior talent. We need to be patient, though. The problem with coaches is that they only care about winning the next game. If they get sacked, they won't be there in 5 years to reap the benefits of a steady build up. They'll stuff up the cap by buying overpriced vets who they hope will help them win now. Then young players get squeezed out and have success at other clubs. Meanwhile you're still not good. That's why you need a GM or head of football in charge of the cap and retaining young players.

Which makes the job Ben Haran did (genuinely unbelievable how he’s still employed) even worse

His sole job was to literally be seperate from the coach and create a team for now and the future and he’s failed miserably

At least Anderson sounds knowledgeable and has a well thought out process based on what I heard on the dragons podcast

I reckon he was used as a scapegoat at the Titans, didn't deserve the way he got treated and nor did Arthur.

I will say that the 1 difference between the Raiders/Eels and us.. are the Raiders had 3-4 proper forwards, Tapine in particular that just seems to pave over any other cracks... from there I dunno if they got lucky but Weekes, Strange, 2 or 3 quality hookers... these r rly rly sweet talents to have pulled.. and being able to pull Sanders out of essentially playing first grade @ parra and just stick him in reserve grade for this long.. I dont know why the kid signed up for it.. but here he is.. in any case I keep waiting for this team to die and im starting to realise they just arent.. no matter how much defence they do, they seem to have the energy and the speed and skill to fight back.. im still far from convinced though that this approach is repeatable.. you have to really nail down which backs you buy.. how many blokes have we put time into and wasted years and years.. Sloan, Sullivan, Amone come to mind.. none of these young ones we invested so much into.. paid off.. we in with them much the same way that Canberra did with those young stars.

Then Eels always have Mitch Moses at their disposal.. close if not the best 7 in the NRL.. another cheat code if they can get a bit more of a pack to put him behind.. but the signing of Iongi is an absolutely astonishing recruitment.. did Ryles get lucky? guys like Strange and Iongi are probably Blues players within 2yrs. Rly like Smith @ hooker also.. and Da Silva is a bit like the Sanders signing.. just pulled someone essentially getting first grade time at another club... even though they Ryles already has his longterm 9 at the club...

Dont feel like we have any of that.. we do have our young forwards, the couchies.. KK next year.. I guess we have Atkinson who so far looks the goods.. Liddle is ok certainly as an impact hooker, not sure yet how he will go starting.. but im rly not seeing the pieces coming together that are going to take us to the next step.. I dont think Flanno and Ando r gonna be able to get on the same page in terms of resolving how to move forward...

Don't know why you throw Eels into the mix. Difference between Raiders and Eels operations is that Raiders have been run well for the past 3-4 years, while Eels have been run badly. Signing Iongi, Williams and Ryles were good moves amongst many bad moves. Moses is great, but they stole him from Tigers 10 years ago, not recently.

Liddle (and Cook) is 10x better than Riley Smith.
