Makes you wonder if it is worth following the Dragons this year. Why be negative about our chances of winning (I know we won't win anyway)?

Saving his job by setting the bar low I feel. Wonder how the playing group feel about that comp comment and talking about the “cattle” he has. Even if it’s true your players now know you don’t believe in them

If it was his first year, when he was cleaning up the mess Hook left, this would have just been honesty. Coming into his 3rd year, saying this is just making preemptive excuses.
Yeah exactly. You could cop it from Holbrook or Hannay just starting at their clubs with rosters that aren’t theirs. Not now ffs

Where do you see the Gold Coast and Newcastle finishing in 3 years time? If they still are not making the top 8, will that be Hannay's and Holbrook's fault or is it the clubs they are coaching fault.

Yes it is realistic Frank, but I think our supporters want to hear an upbeat positive coach aiming for the stars, we've had a very ordinary 10 years or more, and we keep hearing next year, next year. ......well for me, I want a dynamic team for 2027 nothing else will do.

Bang on and on with complaints about the most logical thing ever then bang on and on defending a coach and his son who wouldn't get a start in any other reserve grade team after 2 years of failure. Now making excuses for a 3rd year of failure before the season has even started. Complaining that he doesn't have the cattle in a list that is 93.4~94.5% his making. A genius like you must know how that was calculated? I'm betting you don't

If they come out making excuses for a 3rd year of failure before the season has even started, well that is more than hypothetical. I can't see them doing it under any circumstances. It is just that pathetic.
BTW what does this mean? The coach isn't at fault at all, it's all on the club? How do you figure that? It's clubs fault if it doesn't act in a timely manner sacking the coach.

You must have missed the part where Flanno took over a roster that was tipped to get the wooden spoon and was coaching suicide and that Ryles and Slater both knocked back and Young and Hornby were our only other "applicants". You must have missed the part where Fitzgibbon knocked us back before we signed Griffin. Even John West would knock us back. Even I would knock back coach us, if I was an aspiring career coach. You also must have missed the part where I pointed out that teams not from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane have only one 3 comps in the last 28 years and 2 of them had halfbacks who were 2 of the best players to ever play the game. You must have missed the part where we have only made the semis once in the last 14 years. You must have missed the part where most of the teams at the bottom end of the betting to make the top 8 are not from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. You must have missed the part where coaching jobs for those non, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne teams are musical chairs and even coaching suicide. You must have missed the part where I said I want us to have better than Kyle. You must have missed the part where I said we and the other non Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne teams are not an attractive proposition for top line prospective players, excluding the signing of Koloamatangi. You must have missed the part where I asked does anyone expect a team not from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane to win a comp in the next 5 years. Then it will probably be another 5 years. Our problems go way beyond Flanno or Kyle. Our locations is a handicap, just like all the other non Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane team. I am being realistic. It appears to many, first it was Price's fault, then McGreggor's fault, then it was Griffin's fault, now it it Flanno's fault and who's fault will it be next? Dean Young's fault.
Will we ever win another comp in the future. When will New Zealand win a comp. Do you think the WA Bears will ever win a comp or Papa New Guinea?
I am not trolling, I am pointing out facts that in some cases moderators have said were unpopular and even deleted the most important thread that has ever been put on this site, because it was deemed unpopular and one that no one could even provide a logical rational argument against.
If Flanno can fix us, I doubt anyone can or will.
Tell me and everyone else what your solution is?
PS I am not defending Kyle. I have ask several times who we should have signed or more pointedly could we have signed instead of Kyle. I am not happy with Kyle being there, but our problems are much more than Kyle. We had only make the top 8 once in the last 12 years before Shane and Kyle Flannagan arrived at our club. We had hardly made any big name in demand signings long before Flanno got here. I have pointed out that all teams from ones who are not based in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have struggled to sign top line talent and have also pointed out all the good to decent players we have lost over the last 20 years or so, probably more than any other club. I have pointed out our location along with all the other teams not based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane is a handicap to success, but that was deemed "unpopular" lol The facts are facts, whether they are unpopular or not.

How long ago was that Frank? Can we or should we expect any improvement this decade?
So he's been first picked each week for 2 years and a game and hasn't improved at all! Probably gotten even worse. Do we have to wait another 2 years for him to get dropped?

BTW I suck at tipping but I'd don't run around boasting about how I'm smarter and more knowledgable about the game than everyone else.

It is out of my hands and out of your hands, what team we have in 27 and how they perform. I have wanted a good team for the last 46 years, but we have only made the semis once since 2112. It is very demoralising and it must be the same for all the other non Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane fans.
Us fans are voices in the wilderness. It makes no difference what we post on these forums to how well we will go. St George fans expected success, but that is now a thing of the past. We don't even have much hope now.

What are you basing your expectations on of any improvement in the next decade? I can say the same thing about all the other non Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane based teams?
I think Flanno was the best coach we could have signed. I would have also like Slater to have taken the job, but he didn't want it. We may see improvement post next year, if our young forwards develop and progress and Reed become a top line halfback, but we still need to attract or produce some top line backs.
I don't think any other coach would have done any better than Flanno has done, with the roster and circumstances he inherited and has had to deal with.
Even if it’s how they feel internally, that they aren’t a contender and don’t have the cattle, it is never something a first grade coach should publicly say before a ball is even kicked. Does nothing for team morale and is a culture killer. Not a way to get a playing group to play for you

What am I basing my expectations on? My expectation that the coach should have a struggling team improve quite a lot after 2 years or be under a lot of pressure to keep his job?

Yep. I would bet we will see this play out over the next few weeks. I hope I'm way off and if so I will apologise for the lack of faith, even to Frank, but I bet I'm not wrong.
