Some big names in that team and really should have not given them a sniff but they did. However showed a bit of class and resilience to beat an ordinary Magpies team.
First 30 mins it was clearly a mismatch, Saints just rolling down the field each set, looking crisp and way on top. Bit scrappy in the 2nd half and a couple of “interesting “ calls by the ref/touchie brought the Maggie’s right into it but as you said jo, class kicked in with 10 to go to kick away againSome big names in that team and really should have not given them a sniff but they did. However showed a bit of class and resilience to beat an ordinary Magpies team.
So who are our wingers for next week rev ?NSW Cup Notes - (38-38 Win):
Coupla player comments:
- Interesting squad today, trials for first grade for sure, Leilua, Sloan, Nick, Lawson, Lawrie, Guler, RFM all in there.. CT taken out late and SFinau back in to play wing.
- Fifitas first runs once again looks like an International forward he is a deadset missile.. we get a few penalties and SFinau finishes a backline movememnt by cutting back and beating a couple of tackles.. didnt deserve that one, was individual skill, but we will take it. 6-0.
- Off to a good start here, another good run from Fifita and really just a standard backline kind of movement but they hand it to Sloan with an open line and his speed is enough to place it down in the corner.. he didnt dive (this is the part he needs to work on), but he had enough space he didnt need too this time, another sideline conversion from Glover who has improved so much this year, 12-0.
- This is a really intense battle.. Wests are hard and fast.. put some big hits on us.. eventually we get our chance though, a repeat set on their line and Lawson dashes through from centre for a nice try, bit of his speed and a good line and probably poor defence. 16-0.
- Guler has come up with a few offloads early, interesting to see how we use that moving forward.. he obviously enjoys it, and its dangerous all be it some risk.
- Fifita ended up staying on for 25mins, thats a big stint for him.. played well in a dominant side, didnt really get tested defensively tbf.
- Glover gets Ramsey into space and he burns his opponent only to slip over close to the line and throws a wild speculator offload as he falls.. right intro the hands of Sloan who wrong foots an opponent to put it down right in the corner again! 20-0.
- Lot of crap decisions in a row on our line, wests finally went in on about their 4th set.. BMM got into some big boy shenanigans with one of the tigers who was the cause imo, they got the penalty, then we take them into touch with some brilliant defence and they call us offside.. and then he sneaks a try while we were getting into position.. anyway.. 20-6 at Half Time.
- Gotta say our old mate Lobb playing fullback is amazing under the high ball.. not that these halves are particularly threatening with their bombs.
- Ref pinged us a couple of times in a row and eventually they spread it and walked a try in without being touched, Nick got caught out bad on the play before at ctr (just a reminder he is a 2nd rower..), Sloan had a 2on1 but its more that he didnt chase it.. the team just watched as the wests winger walked it almost under the sticks. 20-12.
- Everything just going against us, repeat possessions for Wests... 2nd rower runs between Glover and Nick, not even close to stopping him, 20-18, you would favour Wests at this point with momentum... BUT.. off the kick off the wan*er #17 for wests who was fighting with BMM before knocks it on into Gulers hands, who offloads to Muhleissen for a try under the posts.. this is the turning point of the match.. 26-18.
- Fifita comes back on and another of his massive runs to get a fast play the ball on the opponents line and Guler takes advantage. small step and plonks it down near the sticks with plenty of defenders on him.. game over 32-18.
- Last try was put on by Ilias, im not even sure if he meant to deliver a cut out pass, but it worked out well for Lawson to stroll over on fulltime to finish us at 38-18, a nice recovery from a game that was in the balance and a ref that did us no favours...
- Glover & Ramsey once again are the difference between us and every other side (bar Boyd/Martin for the Warriors), its actually a bit of a shame Glover will probably never get a chance in first grade with us.. I just think Reed will end his time here.
- Fifita had his best game in ages.. he did heaps of passing, assume he was playing lock and he did it well.. I dunno how he would go doing defensive minutes in first grade, but offensively he was a freaking animal. It was such a good game, and I know hes playing for a contract... but im honestly thinking hes miles in front of Tonga in terms of an impact forward.. but if hes not being held onto next year, then really its probably not worth persisting.. I dont think Tonga is going great, but his development time is an investment for 2026 and 2027...
- Lawrie almost scored about 3 tries.. was solid again, like so many players, NSW Cup is his ceiling, Guler was pretty good.. but I feel like you have to let him offload, its part of what contributes to his value.
- Leilua was rocks and diamonds like he is in 1sts.. I rly think its time to move on, bench or nothing, start Sua & Nick in the 2nd row for 1st grade.
- SFinau was pretty much rock solid all game, rly good stuff in attack and defence.
I dont think it has much to do with whos in form... but more to do with who is staying and who is leaving next year... but I think its Lawson/Sloan or Lawson/SFinau or Lawson/Schiller (if the rumour is true on the latter). So who are our wingers for next week rev ?

Same situation as which winger we play, Fifita is off-contract, Tonga is signed longterm.. so Fifita playing a blinder may mean nothing.. nonetheless it was very impressive today... its also just the 1 game too.You think Fifita might come into first grade?
So who are our wingers for next week rev ?
I like the idea of Su’a and Nick in the 2nd row, Toby C up front and Leilua to the bench. But I can’t see Flanno doing that ( but I hope I’m wrong ). Love RFM and Lawrie for what they do for the younger fellas by supporting and mentoring them ( just like BMM) but Nick needs a crack at 2nd row. Time to look ahead for 2026. RFM/Lawrie have had their time in 1st grade.NSW Cup Notes - (38-38 Win):

Ilias guides them to 7 in a row.Guler offload could be invaluable against the Eels
Is it the right time to give him another shot at 1sts? Confidence wise must be now back. But has his performances been up to 1sts grade standardIlias guides them to 7 in a row.
Must be time to give it a go. It looks more and more like the only thing we have to lose is the spoon. Is it the right time to give him another shot at 1sts? Confidence wise must be now back. But has his performances been up to 1sts grade standard
I will re-watch his run but it looked like he did get hit by lactic and that really slows you down.
