That's it! i've seen enough. I'm jumping off the Egan bandwagon and onto the Nick T bandwagon. His post contact metres are off the charts.

I thought out of Nick T, LPT, Halangahu, Latu, the last of those would see first grade first. He hasn't been bad today but I've been more impressed by the other 3.

NSW Cup Player thoughts:
  • Ramsay is the difference between the sides.. spark and acceleration, defensively, high bombs.. u name it.. I still dont think he could be a longterm first grader.. or if we would give up a top30 spot again... not from his skill or heart.. just his weight and ability to stay healthy.. but id take him over Sloan tbh if I needed a 1st grade fullback.. im much more confident even though hes going to struggle against big strong bodies.
  • Lawson has so much talent but so much to learn.. defensively rushing out and offensively with no respect for holding the ball.. I wonder what was going on today though as there was a defender smashing him every time he got the ball...
  • Tonga was solid.. 1 defensive lapse I can recall and 1 bad error.. Liu was good, Latu was good bar again a defensive lapse.. Stone impressed me in trials and came off the back fence, just the 1 bad error.. maybe coming in at 100kmh isnt always the best play. Webster had some early errors but was solid after that
  • NickT stepped up nicely, nice to see him uninjured.. hope he can continue, not sure what they will do with him and egan though.
  • Halangahu ive been really sketchy on him stepping up, but I thought he handled men really well today.. strong carries.. they put some hits on him but he handled it.. scored a try.. tbf he overran it and coulda been called forward, but hey.. I think he did 80mins? Hats off was a great debut at this level.
  • Glover is Glover.. hes a tenacious runner, and tenacious in scrambling defence.. scored 1 great try himself.. hes not a long termer but if he can just put all the talent around him in holes.. hes not a goalkicker though, 2yrs weve been struggling with that.. Ramsey was worse though, so im not sure what the solution is, but imo u pick a goalkicker first, and the squad second.. u cant afford to not convert every try thats not in front.
  • LKT I barely noticed.. he seems to get lost in games imo, he needs to be hungrier.. but it was his first game back from injury also.. and he ran thu the middle a few times and created opportunities for his runners.
  • SFinau was alright.. few ppl blaming him for tries, but i think that was completely on Lawson... Sloan was alright.. backing up was the main thing he bought to the game, just that 1 unforced error and not getting into position to defend it.. still coming back from injury himself.

Atkinson is next years 6, but moving forward I reckon he could be the 7.. I think Ah Kee will trump LKT, hes far more involved in games and I think classier in all aspects.. but hes still in U17's so its not something we would have to think about for 2-3 years.

Need to see more of LKT this year in Cup.. hes also our only first grade injury cover... but once his fitness is back, I want to seem him taking games on, not sitting back and waiting.

I thought he was to blame for both the no try due to Ramseys try saver and 5 min later the try the Grubs scored down his wing. The first of those was obvious. Lawson had his opposite covered for all money. Finau needed to stay out.

In the second half he was good. But he's always been good with the ball. What he does off the ball worries me.

Agree completely.

Liu was excellent. Another flying under the radar due to Latu, LPT and Halangahu.

Yep

Got better as the game went on.

Agree again.

Disagree. In the first half that was true. In the second half he was a menace.

Another second half standout. Not with long range tries but with strong carries.

This was the main try hes being blamed for, the inside defence is a little late to move tbf which scared Lawson.... but.. its still 3on3 if LKT stays on the man about to catch the footy... but you can see already Lawson has come out of the line.

Lawson doesnt shut the play down... the pass gets made.. leaving Finau on his own with the centre and winger running at him.

Still heaps to learn is all.. its up to Flanno to figure out how fast he can learn it.. but tbf there arent any wing spots free, and there arent many good centres to play at NSW Cup level.

Shonkies reserve grade QLDer is not better than our reserve grade young QLDer. I'm backing LKT.

Maybe but before that when Ramsey had to make the try-saver, that was 100% on Finau. Lawson easily had his opposite covered but Finau came in anyway to leave his opposite unmarked.

I had to go find it as I didnt remember it.. but here we are, Lawson plants his feet to tackle the decoy, Finau is now faced with a likely 2on1.

Lawson realises his error though and changes direction... at this point has been beaten with his centre outside him.. but with his pace tbf he is able to still come in and goes on (after this photo) to make contact on his man.. .

And as a result Finau thinks he has to manage a 2on1.. I understand what ur saying because Lawson does eventually get to him.. and maybe he stops him from the side.. though a decent ctr would not be stopped like that.. but your making it sound like its 2 schoolboy errors in defence from Finau.. I would argue neither were errors.. this is the difference between having Val Holmes inside him in the trials.. versus defending with a rugby league rookie playing his first game @ ctr instead.

Yet to see Atkinson, but skill wise I choose Ah Kee, so Atkinson or LKT will have to play special to keep him from their spot. He is still only 17.

Way I read it too. I have a feeling he is planning to make an intercept now he is committed as no way can he tackle both. Apparently he built a Ressie reputation as the Dragons intercept king.

During the offseason, someone said (can't remember who it was) that Lawson will be our starting winger from rd 1, i said no chance, he needs a good run of KOE cup games before he is ready, possibly the whole season and another preseason under his belt.
