I know we have DA and thank god for that, what would be our plan B if he goes ? Surely we cant just play musical chairs with these guys and millions of bucks. Do we have prospects in recruiting managers, has DA got anyone under his wing showing him the ropes or do we take pot luck if he goes.

Hopefully in his 2 years, we had some people learn from him. The price for the competent recruitment managers seems to be rising fast.

Every person has a price - the very best of course demands the most. Anderson is one of the best in my opinion - we were able to secure his services from the Roosters possibly for a bit more than he was paid by the Roosters and even though he was head of recruitment for them from 2019 to 2025 they were prepared to let him go as they had signed Canberra's recruitment manager, Joel Carbone.

Daniel Anderson’s decision to leave the Sydney Roosters for the St George Illawarra Dragons was primarily driven by a broader professional opportunity and front-office restructuring, rather than reports of a pure salary play.
The key factors that influenced his move include:
  • An Expanded Portfolio: At the Roosters, Anderson served strictly as the Head of Recruitment. The Dragons offered him a much larger, elevated role as the Head of Recruitment and Pathways, giving him overarching authority to overhaul both the top-tier roster and the club's junior development structures.
  • Front-Office Reshuffle at the Roosters: The Roosters opened the door for his exit when they signed former Canberra Raiders recruitment specialist Joel Carbone, which created structural changes within the Tri-colours' recruitment team.
  • The Chance to Lead a Massive Rebuild: The Dragons made Anderson their No. 1 target as part of an aggressive front-office shakeup initiated by new CEO Tim Watsford. Anderson was given the keys to resurrect a struggling club and change its narrative, a challenge he immediately capitalised on by leading a massive signing spree.

Apparently Ryan Carr will be with the Tigers next season. They reportedly found him on LinkedIn, which strikes me as the most Keystone Cops method of finding coaching staff for your "elite" team that I've ever heard.
Good luck to him, though. I thought he worked hard for us and got some decent results as interim coach and would probably have made a better fist of the top job than Flanno managed.

Yes, Carr should do well at the Wests Tigers helping Benji out. He didn't have much luck at the Castleford Tigers who suspended him and then he decided to part ways with them with their blessing.

He was good for the Dragons. Went in to bat against biased referring, got instant improvement out of the team and seemed to be well-liked among the playing group. He's the best coach we have had since Wayne. Hoping Dean Young will do well, of course I am, but based on their results as interim head coach, Carr beats him hands down.

Yes, I liked Carr very much as the interim. Possibly would have been more successful than Shane Flanno. I remember how good it was in 2023 after taking over from Griffin he got the team to beat the Roosters - first game as the interim. Such a great win.

Roosters letting Sam Walker go. How will it effect the Dragons? I'd guess the rumour Herbie Farnworth is going to the Roosters is accurate and Dolphins will keep Bostock.

Sometimes one has to give some grudging respect to the Rorters. They way they don't let player managers screw them around. Send a message to players to "sign now or risk the offer being pulled".

I wish we were as ruthless as them. Unfortunately we are not in that position YET
Mitigating circumstances for different clubs but roosters have put themselves in a position where they can afford to let him go

I don’t think he’s worth the 1.4m, Toby Rodwell and Carter Mareko coming through look PHENOMENAL and give the roosters some leverage with young guys coming through in a fraction of the money

Savala already there who can do a job + roosters can sign literally any half on the market pretty much

So they are the one club in the league who can be as harsh/ruthless as possible and there’s not really any negatives for them

We have been a bottom 4 club now for years, and unless our standing changes then beggars cant be choosers. Our only good fortune has been we have DA, I fear for the day that he may want to leave. I just wonder if we didnt have Metcalf then would we take on walker at 1.4m. After all we did pay the biggest fraud in the game a million a year to do nothing for us except rip us off.
