I imagine Charley Heidke wasn't far off. He might be a bit better than Buchanan.
Charlie is the shadow back, so he will spend some time in camp but still play on weekend.

Behind the scenes it would appear that our club is a bit of a mess with recruitment and retention hopefully the new CEO can fix itAtleast Heidke can play a full cup game this weekend, hes the only 'bostock like' outside back in our system, and could have been the cup right centre for the last month imo.. if he had a contract, id play him in 1sts for Val.
Is it? Might be but depends on a lot of things. What big name players were interested in coming? How much overs should the club be willing to pay and for how long?Behind the scenes it would appear that our club is a bit of a mess with recruitment and retention hopefully the new CEO can fix it
Re RCG i was one who wanted him even for 3 years but from what i have read, he isn't playing that great, so bullet dodged on that one i would say..Is it? Might be but depends on a lot of things. A lot of talk about props but so far the club has missed out on RCG and AFB. RCG is barely first grade standard now let alone in another 2 years. AFB is still one of the best props but for the money he is on he'd better be. And is sliding already. Which makes sense if you consider his age. IMO Flanno dodged a bullet missing both of those.
Missing Tyrell May was bad. Though I'm not sure if there were any talks. If not for Couchmans injury and the way LPT is playing well and getting better, I don't think the club needs to worry about anymore props. Needs to instead concentrate on keeping the ones we have. Only go to the market for one if the reserve grade props at the club, Gular, Sele, Lawrie, can be passed off to another club or the ESL.
Tom Dearden would have been a coup but I don't think it ever got the stage of a meeting. He was determined to stay at NQ. Who else was the club in contention for?
AFB is still one of the best props. For the money he is on, he better be. A couple of years ago, he was probably the best. Now I doubt he's in the top 5. Sharks have got him for 3 more years after this. I think we are better off without him though right now, we could definitely use him. Sometimes it's better to backward in order to go forward.Re RCG i was one who wanted him even for 3 years but from what i have read, he isn't playing that great, so bullet dodged on that one i would say..
AFB from the few games i have seen, he has played well, is he sliding not sure but i don't pay attention when other games are on so i will take your opinion on that.. I really don't see Flano going into next year without a new prop even this year if he can score someone he will, priority for next year is to move on some of these contracted players as well to give us more flexibility in getting the right recruits as you mentioned those 3 should be getting their manager to explore other avenues..
We probably over pay average players i.e Lawrie, Bird when he was here, Ravalawa, looks to me that overpaying $50-200k on too many average players has caught up with us..The fact that so many clubs manage to retain so many ~1million dollar players.. or close too.. and still keep the rest.. makes me numb to believing in the cap being followed by wealthy/connected clubs.... somehow they still manage to keep cap compliant and retain almost all of the young ones too..
Here we are.. with I would suggest 2 players in Gutho/Holmes in the 600-800k range... maybe Sua in there also.. everyone else a bargain buy or a junior.
Roosters are very good in bringing external juniors from other clubs/area's and developing them, they have literally no internal juniors from their area, but they know that and have brought in measures to combat that, they identify players from wherever and bring them in their pathways and coaching i would assume its at a higher level currently then other teams, same as Melbourne, identify, bring them in, develop them, reap the benefits.Luciano on big coin too, it’s all about that allocation of money as well
Most of the clubs who are successful have developed from within which has made it easier to keep players + retain them on 100-150k less than their market value
Roosters have developed about 3/4 of their roster but the narrative around them having no juniors is jarring, it’s no wonder they have loads of players on less money than what their worth eg. Robert Toia is on peanuts but is a state of origin centre
Wests Tigers mateBostock...sigh. What happened to Alex lobb? Wasn't he a young gun too?
