You know sometimes you can tend to over coach kids. Your so intent in getting them to learn and play your attacking structures you sometimes stymie their natural ability and dent their creativity to play what they see in front of them.

In the 1st half the Blues seemed to be intent in getting to their structures and being very regimented. The 2nd half whether by design or not the shackles have somewhat loosened.

Completely agree, a bit of freedom and confidence to play more naturally has made for some outstanding plays.

Super proud of our young guys, all of them have really stood out at various points tonight.

Watching this many of the elite play together is a good reminder how high the nrl-prospect standard is.. lot of these boys look like sure things, both of the NSW wingers far out, hit it up like props but still athletes.. would love some of that..

There are quite a few guns but that qld prop Smith under the Bulldogs stable runs like a winger also.. those tur*s are taking them from everywhere.. do they even need Latu..

CST was solid in his short minutes.. prob didnt get a chance to show his wares, but try was nice.. Halangahu had the commentators frothing.. I still find him a strange player, like its impressive when he carries blokes, but it does lead to slow play the balls and sometimes I question whether its benefiting the team, but some of the runs were amazing..

Buchanan was ok, but his 2nd year at this level, hes not really a line breaker.. I dunno what to think of him, but he didnt embarrass himself either.. was sort of wondering what Heidke would have looked like out there.. I dont think he would have stood out tbh.. lot of real athletes out there, looks nothing like a flegg or cup game.. huge step up in quality out there.

Sure Halangahu has a huge future. Stanley-Trail needs to keep his weight down so he doesn't become like Luch. Buchanan was quiet and easily contained. A bit small compared to the other 3 centres.

Trying to think who we might have from our club in this game next year

Ah Kee/Mason Phillips/Marley Maclaren/Creighton Meafou potentially

and if we sign any outsiders from QLD or NSW to the pathways maybe those additions as well

Dogs are just stockpiling so many guns in their pathways it’s insane, also like you said the athletic level of the outside backs is so high at that level.

Heidke is very similar to Stephenson from QLD Tonight, just a real big strong athletic guy which would have suited this game more than a small zippy guy like Hayden IMO

Halangahu has that clutch gene aye, just looks immense in every big game he plays. He definitely needs an offload and some late movement with his line running as he can rely on brilliance from his half a bit too much to get him into space. But what a player none the less

CST quality. Needed to get #13 Jordan Uta off for him much earlier he had a shocker, interesting to see was put in the middle as well

A few things I noticed about Hayden. One is his size, compared to everyone else out there, which might make it difficult to make NRL. The other was that he was not given much ball all night. However, the big thing was that he positioned himself well in both attack and defence. He was on the outside for the aforementioned posser dive try, and he was also in the right position to make last ditch tackles quite a few times. No doubt he is a footballer with a good turn of pace, not lightning speed though, but his lack of size might hold him back.

For the second year in a row, I was losing it with that halfback constantly nullifying attacking opportunities by running himself. Over and over again. As a result, it was hard to judge Buchanan's attacking ability but I noticed his size or lack of especially when their halfback scored. A bigger body probably would have bundled him over the sideline.

CST and especially Halangahu were very good. CST good in the very limited time he had on the field. As for Buchanan, he has a good passing game from what I've seen. Maybe turning himself into a running 5/8 with a good game-managing, play-making halfback like Reed is his best shot of making waves in the NRL.

I believe that Buchanan may struggle unless he steps up his involvement in the game and works on his physique. Didn't have the stamp of a player that can play centres in 1sts at the moment. In saying that not everyone plays centre for their state at the highest levels so obviously has ability and shows promise.

Halangahu reminds me of Carl Webb in attack . His physique, his damaging runs on the edge. He needs to work on his tackling technique to match Webb but that can be developed. The slow play the balls can be attributed in part on having 3 defenders on him.

It would be another string in his bow if he could develop a offload simply because there was room on his shoulder for his centre and winger because he attracted or at the very least tempted their defensive line to step in . Hopefully that can also be developed.

Love that left foot step if he could develop the same on his right he would really be a formidable attacking weapon.

He shows promise but as the knowledgeable on this forum know promise and being able to deliver at the highest level are two different things. In saying that I would be keeping him.

This sorta thing happens sometimes, lots of kids are physically way ahead at 16-17-18YO and then it gets to 19/20 YO and plenty have kids have caught up when they can’t rely on their raw physicality anymore. Now the tables have turned and Hayden looked like a kid compared to some grown men in the outside backs last night
