Why are you so pessimistic about this? Sloan hasn't kicked on. I hate to say it but it's true. Gutho will be very steady at the back. Won't break the game open but how often does Sloan do that? The one game against the Rorters a couple of years ago and ___________?

If Atkinson is recruited to play halfback, fullback will be another problem area fixed. But I agree about Flanno's Dads Army recruitment. Must have a lot of confidence in the juniors progressing through the grades.

2 years for Gutho with a club option for a third year or just 2 years would work.

Flanno said Sloan had next year to show he was good enough. Maybe I'm too pessimistic. I don't think he's bad. Just going downhill and was always just a hardworking pro, not very talented. That's all fine and good but ask Blocka about how quickly those type no longer cut it. Parra seem to think he isn't going to cut it. I think they are right.

Why do you like him so much? He's ok. Might turn out to be a good signing but he's hardly a superstar and he is over 30. Atkinson is far more important.

I see. But Kyle Flanagan shouldn't be penciled in to start in first grade. I'm sure he is the best bloke but he's not a professional RL player. The sooner Flanno accepts this the better for everyone. It can't be good for Kyle's mental state to have Hunt give him a serve in public. I bet he is thinking, "Who else on this team thinks I'm a rubbish player?"

We're lacking effective leaders, we sign them & yet some fans are having a cry about it. Gutho is a big upgrade on Sloan, Val similar to Lomax but provides more leadership & Cook gives Liddle a breather plus you get leadership. We can't just sit on our arses and do nothing.

Those 3 guys help with the development of players in our entire squad, whether it be on the training field or during the game. We haven't developed any younger players through our senior squad in the last 5-10 yrs. Last players were Frizz/JDB.

2. CT
3. Suli
4. Holmes (30+)
5. Sloan/Finau/Allen
6. Atkinson
7. Kyle F
8. F. Molo (30+)
9. Cook (30+)
10. Sele
11. Luch
12. Sua
13. JDB (30+)

14. Liddle
15. RFM/Lawrie/Loko/Eisenhuth
16. Couchman
17. Couchman

Max 4/5 guys in our 17 who are 30+. Pretty much all those guys would get a spot in top 17 at most other teams.

We're not a top 4 team, no point comparing us to them because they're at a different stage of their development. Flanno has brought these guys to teach our youngsters about training standards, professionalism etc.

o Was wondering what he was going to do.. I know they tried him @ fullback also to fit everyone in.. but ultimately the #6 jersey is going to be contested by LKT, Hammoud and possibly Reed.. 3 prospects I think all well in front of Quinn.

o The guy im really curious about though is BRumble... I think hes too old for Flegg now, so if Sloan is in 1st grade, I think Ben is in NSW Cup, but if Sloan drops back.. I think Ben will have to go in a lower division... You can put 1 of em on the wing, but we already have quite a few 1st graders needing those positions, plus Kirk and Williams who will want that jersey at some point during the year. I guess im just curious how much of a prospect Ben is, cause after watching the last few fullbacks, there is a lot of work to turn a kid into a 1st grader... I spose until someone stronger comes along, you pursue the best you have.

Competition brings out the best in players, I think the lack of competition for our fullback spot has hurt Tyrells development. I remember him & Ramsey competing for that spot & imo it brought the best out of both players.

100% if we can land Atkinson, Gutho and 1 middle who is a genuine upgrade (I think Lodge, but could be wrong).. then we are a shot at doing OK next year.. its a noticeably better squad than 2024 imo, but only 'if' we get em all.. plus we got rid of the 2 blokes that were srsly kiling the vibe Flanno is trying to build.

We have 4 free spots though, I think itll be more before next season, so be fascinating to see who we end up with, Douehi I think is almost a given, proper depth in 2 positions.. might even force his way into 1st grade regardless.

What would also make a huge difference, is if the Couchmans really step up another level.. they r a more crucial part of our pack after missing RCG/Saifiti etc.

Potentially 4, if we off-load Rava or Lawrie. Hopefully one of them is a good fwd. Maybe keep a spot free to pick up a late recruit, like we did with Luch? Exciting times, finally feels like we're starting a new chapter.

Well thought out fact and reason, in this sub!? This is the type of discussion we should be encouraging that gets more people engaged, rather then a negative few in an echo chamber complaining about everything.

Very exciting times! I'll be stoked if we lock in Atkinson. Whether its 3 or 4 spots if we also nab a forward and/or Doueihi thats an outstanding year, people are really sleeping on how good he was when fit as a running five-eight. Always a risk with his injuries but a cheap one that offers a lot of cover as well.

Yup agreed, I wonder if the lodge signing is on hold due to all the player movement and also wonder if a player like Hazelton might be considered who will potentially get pushed out with AFB coming. Also a very big body and always puts in huge effort, would easily improve defensively under Flanno I think.

If we get 4 signing (+Cookie and Holmes) this year that's a huge turning point for us as a club.
