No reports at all of the Dragons chasing Papenhuyzen. No reports at all of Shonkies chasing Gutherson.

Parra don't have salary cap issues if reportd are to be believed. Ryles simply doesn't rate Gutherson anymore. Lost a bit of already slowish speed. Never very talented. The end usually comes very sudden. Ask Blocka about it. Dragons player of the year only a year ago.

Enough of the leadership BS. Have Cook and Holmes both with more big game experience than Gutherson. Have JDB who leads by example. And a couple of other veterans.

Ah yes because we always get every bit of info from mainstream media and not the agenda there pushing that week for coaches/clubs managers and recruitment will talk to every option, they aren't all advertised.

No need to misrepresent me there Champ. Hammer is a far better centre. Sloan wouldn't force him out of the team but might well have him to move centre. How about Gutherson there Champ? Which fullback at another club would he force out? Not Parras. That is certain.

It's irrelevant if you think he's a better centre he doesn't displace him at fullback as you said.

Maybe try actaully reading and responding to the few people willing to engage with you before doubling down on the angry commentary there 'champ'. That's usually how a discussion works, see below.

Gutho - Sharks, Dogs, Raiders, Eels, Warriors. Potentially Titans. He'd be even with those fullbacks & better than some. Sloan would be behind every fullback on that list apart from Iongi (unproven).

If the medical was only yesterday.. but surely the contract length/price is sorted already.. I thought once it was done we would announce today, obviously were not gonna announce pre-medical given the volkman event.

I do wish we moved faster though in general.. always seems like weeks instead of days for things to go from rumour to official.. but anyway still likely to be announced today or tomorrow surely..

actually good point.. both Flanno and Gutho will need to give interviews.. its a pretty major signing.. I dont think he will be announced as captain.. but its possible.. it would be some stability now our old captain has left.. but thats a Flanno call..

Why Dragons apparently aren't in the race to sign Paps is a good question. Still pretty young, fast and has a huge following with kids. Good for sponsorship. That might be what the holdup for Gutherson is. Trying to sign Paps first.

That's a very good point and it could be as simple for that. Also wonder if it'll end up being 2yrs or 3yrs for Gutho, might give Sloan more confidence and drive to grow into the full time spot again if it's only 2yrs, knowing itll be there for him to takeover. Or maybe it's a 3rd year option, hopefully we see soon.

o I think Gutho will be 3yrs... were going all in on our next captain and the guy to reshape after Hunt has left, its just the value of the 3rd year is a difficult conversation, he also might not be fullback in that year... but hopefully we're past that point by now and its just paperwork and maybe how to handle interviews etc..

o Atko I think could take a while.. im not sure if his signature is subject to a 2025 release being sought.. or were gonna do it in 2 stages.. I reckon they would prefer to do it in 1 go than announce a 2026 and keep agitating.... but may be waiting for Cronulla to be sure Volkman is going to sign with them first.. I mean this could be a few days or a few weeks.. there is complexity and a chain of events to happen first.

But the thing is if Atko cant come 2025.. we need to go look for another halves option.. and any decent option would want more than 1yr.. so really we want Atko to come straight away so we dont potentially waste a year.

yeah. I'm just going to say, IMO if the Dragons had a young, fast backline with a lot of natural ability but lacking experienced leadership, Gutherson would be an excellent signing. As is, terrible signing. It's all about the balance of the team.

Papenhuyzen would be a 10x better signing than Gutherson but even him I don't see as a priority. I think changing the fullback is a luxury, not a priority now. jodragon40 often talks about forwards laying the platform for fullbacks like Sloan. Even Hunt and Kyle might be much better with a better forward pack. On the subject, need halves. Also need at least 1 fast winger. After all that, might be time to think about replacing Sloan.

Papa will be a million bucks and super small.. he is deadly in a brilliant backline that open up the gaps for him... but thats not our squad.. we play different..... and I would be really nervous about buying papa with his injuries and concussion issues, esp at 1mill a season.

You also have to be realistic, even if we went for Papa, we wont get him over numerous other clubs... A dogs or a roosters or parra if Ryles is close with him.. one of them will get him.

Ok. I can't understand your opinion at all but you are more than entitled to your opinion. I would go Papenhuyzen 100% but as I said just above, not a priority. Not until a few other problem areas are fixed.

Think you are right and wrong. Gutherson would be better than Sloan for the next two years barring a huge form turnaround. But fullback shouldn't be the priority right now. My 2 cents worth.

Yup agree, provides a good strong captain/influence and if Sloan embraces it, which I think he will, he can learn a heap without being pushed out of 1st grade. He's grown a lot and become very humble since that initial leave request a couple years ago under hook. Seems to always want to better himself and set a positive example, particularly to the dapto kids he mentors. Also, lol to the second part.

As someone who hates the storm but loves Paps and everything he brings I still agree on your paps comments, it doesn't seem like a good fit for us right now.

With Gutho I can definitely see the appeal of him as captain and it likely goes that way, but jee I'd really love to see Sua as a co-captain as well, the guys an absolute legend.

I think Paps would be a much better fit for the Dragons though I agree he's a bit overrated. Cuts weaker teams to pieces but hardly fires a shot against the best teams. See the GF for example.

I don't agree with everything he says about Gutherson but isn't he right about all the over 30 veterans Flanno is signing being bad and also right about halfback being the priority?

I feel flanno is taking us forward not backwards but saying we are going to be wooden spooners at this time is very negative
