Recruitment and Retention for 2026

He's doing well. C+ or B-. But his recruitment and retention is a D- or E+.

I used to work with a supervisor and we couldn't stand each other. When it came to my biannual performance review instead of giving me a B or A he gave me a C++. 6 months later he was sacked. So I'm going to give Flanno a C++ for performance and D-- for recruitment and retention.
Were you on an all-night bender with jodragon40 jodragon40 again? I just hope you didn't get a tatt to commemorate the event like Grubs fans like to do.

Recruitment and retention is part of the head coaches job. Just give him a D+ and be done with it. That's close to my rating. I'd give him a straight D. Guided us to a 10th place finish last year. Call it a C because he inherited a rabble.

This year has us playing like the second worst team in the comp but debatable because lost to the worst last week. Still has to be dragged, kicking and screaming to promote certain players while others can fuk up any number of times and not be under any pressure. Call it an E. What's between C and E?

Head coach is partly responsible for recruitment and retention.

Your a hard marker. I thought Flanno did well last season with the very average roster he inherited. But yeah, so far this year, the team has gone backwards.
Haven't you been carrying on for about a year that Egan should be in first grade? You reckon you were right about that? TF, why has it taken this long?! I now the deal. If he had a shocker, Flanno would be saying, "See, I was right about him." Now he's playing like he's playing, Flanno probably says, "See, I was right to hold him back until now." I bet Mary wishes he got this much slack from fans.

I'm not giving him a pass, lets call it C, unless Dragons make the finals this year. B if they win a finals game. A- if they win 2 finals games. A if they win 3. A+ if they win the GF. I'm just keeping it real. The way Egan is playing is everything I don't like about Flanno so far. He should've been in the 17 this time last year.

I've always been super aggressive when it comes to promoting promising young players. Doesn't mean I'm right. But Egan should have been promoted sooner.:)

I try to remain positive but fair dinkum, Atkinson is a good, solid lock to come off the bench. LKT is 10x better 5/8.

He's certainly bigger but slower than the average 5/8 but he's a junior partner to the Sharks halves. Give him a bit of freedom to ball play, game manage and kick, he might be very good. With Reed hopefully doing leading the team around at least from 2027, a big, hard running halves partner might suit him really well. Flanno will probably want him to lose a few kgs as well.

It's strange how he's so adamant he has no interest coming to the Dragons early. Does he like coming on to play lock for the Sharks?

Aymon Fitzgibbon headlines list of fresh faces set to hit the NRL transfer market

Already St George Illawarra youngster Finau Latu has begun touring rival clubs as he explores the chance to move to a new team, having most recently spent time at the Knights. He met the five-game criteria last weekend and has already sparked interest from a host of clubs.

The Dragons have put a multi-year extension to Latu but that might not be enough to keep the boom forward. Fitzgibbon is at the head of the queue and the smart money suggests he will leave the Dragons given there are no shortage of clubs waiting in the wings to get his signature.

Funnily enough, it seems unlikely that his father’s Sharks will be among them as he and his dad seek to avoid the pressure that comes with being involved at the same club.

Funnily enough, he has no future at the Dragons because he's a 5/8 and the coach is determined to the point of delusion to have his son as a first grade 5/8.

Saw someone mentioning Latu's contract numbers @ 450k p.a. x 2years offered from us, versus 500k x 3 years offered from dogs and co.... not sure if these figures are made up (probably), but its serious serious dollars if it is for an 18yr old.. imagine what he wants for his next contract when hes just hitting proper first grade age.. i.e. his Age 20-21 contract..

But I feel like we can afford to take the risk on him.. I think he can play #17 off the first grade bench pretty soon... im more confident with him versus halangahu or tonga.. but those guys r signed already.

Was going to say, worth the risk. I think he might like the 2 year deal because as you say, in 2 years he'll probably want much more.

Yeah I think we probably need to match it to make sure he stays.. be a gamble otherwise.. I dont mind 3yrs, id prefer tbh to minimise the number of times we go through this crown management process..

He would also want to know how we plan to use him in first grade.. I think we can make it work, or swap him in and out with Stewart perhaps.. 1 more injury and him or LPT are going to be needed.. arguably the Lawrie selection isnt rly doing much for us either.

I would like to see Latu retained but $500k for an 18 year old, albeit with a ton of potential seems like a big gamble. Especially considering that in 2028 we will have the Couchmen, Eagan, Stewart, Halangahu and Pacifica Tonga all off contract at the same time. Holding onto all of them will be very difficult.

Couchman x 2 + Halangahu = $##########

I'd give him 3 years and also include some bonuses, if there is a shortfall between our offer and other teams, that way he knows if he performs like he thinks he will, then he would be rewarded..

If we're going to take a risk with our salary cap, it's surely now in a rebuilding stage. I can't imagine money being a massive factor. Imo it's about senior opportunities & development. Still think we're in the box seat but also can't be shown as being flustered by him visiting other clubs. I'm glad we have loko & halangahu locked up.
