If you are referring to Chevy Stewart of the Raiders then yes, he is a loose cannon going by the report below, but if you mean Hamish Stewart, no way is he a loose cannon by any stretch of the imagination Jo. You couldn't find a more decent kid from a decent family than Hamish.

I agree. Daine Laurie would be a handy pick up just not sure where we would play him. He would be great for depth...fullback, wing, halves. I dont think he'd come on that basis.

Just putting it out there that DCE still hasn't officially signed anywhere. He has a relationship with Flanno as well. Personally I'm in favour of Atkinson getting a chance with LKT and if things go bad, Kyle is still on the books. I know that won't be a popular comment but more importantly, Reed will be on a development deal. Pretty sure Flanno would prefer he not be rushed in next year but he'll be available. My way of thinking is that if he were definitely not ready at any stage next year, he wouldn't be on a development deal.

Dont we say this every year, now there is no one available for 26, just like we said about 25 and 24, i'm getting tired of this 15 year rebuild that no one wants to call it just that. We have had several years now of has beens and rejects, there is no future in it. This club has really struggled in the recruiting department, I'll leave DA out of it for now and hope that he comes up with some major signings.

My preference is for the club to sign Metcalf on a three year deal, and if Reed cones up to first grade standard during that time, I would prefer to have the problem of needing to unload a top halfback (who is surplus to requirements) than the position we are in at present. If Metcalf is not achievable, my next preference is DCE on a one or two year deal.

Metcalf is contracted to the end of 2026 with the Warriors while DCE is available now for 2026. The Warriors will definitely want to keep Metcalf but if we are looking at longer term and try and get him on a much better deal than what the Warriors can offer him beyond 2026 then we should go for it. DCE in the meantime we should try for.

I would be happy to lock in Metcalf for 2027 to 2029, and if we could get DCE on a one year deal for 2026, then that would be the ideal situation.

I see how the successful clubs recruit and develop juniors behind established first graders, and groom them for first grade like Melbourne has done with Tyran Wishart. I would like Saints to adopt a similar approach with Reed. As I previously mentioned, if he does progress at a rate which means we have to let either the established player (my preference is Metcalf) or Reed go, is that a bad situation to be in?
