Recruitment and Retention for 2026

The Word

SGI Jersey Flegg
I would have preferred to keep Klem as I thought he was one of our more reliable forwards last year and was good for another season but maybe super league were simply able to pay him more.

With Kerr he's definitely not here to break tackles or take the heavy hits. I've never thought he has the mongrel for that. But I do think he improved at the dolphins and I agree with some other posters he will excel when we get in the opposition half and the forwards are given the green light to offload and be more creative. Time will tell whether this turns out to be the case but let's not write him off after round 1. We are going to need him confident. It's that offload ability that got him into the QLD origin camp. I think the Parra game will be a good one for him.

As for JDB, yeah I trusted Flanagan's judgement on that one and I think he called it right. Fine balance between bringing through the young players and having experience and not everyone's going to agree and that's ok, it's part of the fun of the chat forum. In my opinion his leg speed was already starting to look ordinary last year and we were being massacred for line speed by most teams. Not all his fault but he was definitely one of the culprits.

As for Parra, hmmm. I was one of the posters on the other site who was more than happy to get Flanagan's experience over Ryles inexperience. And I still believe we got the right man in the end. I know there's a contingent of fans who want Flanagan gone and that's ok we're all entitled to our opinions but I reckon we will come good under him and I think there's progress across the club as a whole. I wish Ryles the best as I do all ex-Dragons stalwarts but I reckon over the next couple of years we will leave Parra for dead. The have been so reliant on Junior turning it on over the years. At 32 his most destructive passages of play are becoming fewer. And as a club they will find it difficult to replace that momentum.
