I agree Gutho isn't a marquee fullback and he shouldn't have won the Dragons player of the year but he's a good fullback and was close to the player of the year, which isn't saying much after last season. The deficiencies were in the rest of the backline. Gutho had very little help. Also very little help from the forwards. Almost every set of 6 the other team was putting in attacking kicks.

So no to Bula. Gutho is good for next year and then the year after Burton, the fullback everyone was talking about on this thread: https://sgiforum.com/threads/promising-juniors-thread.197/page-93 will be on at least a development contract.

Video of young Ah Kee on the linked page. My immediate impression is that even as a young fellow his passing game is already outstanding. He can really exploit a suddenly changed position with an unexpected pass in a way that I haven't ever seen before. Quick, quick hands. Talent. (excuse off-topic comment)

I know I am only speculating and for all I know Anderson has genuinely got a few signings lined up but it has been crickets for such a long time with nothing concrete and even David Fale has yet to be confirmed.

He’s definitely on the slower side compared to players in the same position

I think Atkinson has the potential to be an elite 5/8. Just need a halfback to pair him whether that be Reed or an external signing

Probably faster than Munster. LKT was 19 at the start of the season, halves partner was the one and only Kyle Flanagan for every game and playing behind a rubbish, injury decimated pack. Give him a chance without those things FFS.

Officially confirmed on Dragons website that David Fale has been signed by the Dragons for 2 years starting 2026. While we have expected this signing, it is good that it is confirmed and now hoping for more to come.

Appreciate optimism but he's 25 years-old!! We recruited a reserve grader. Maybe he will still be better than Sloan. In defence he will be better than Sloan but it's not a signing that should have anyone doing handstands, except David Fale himself.

Let's see how we end up with signings before the trials. Then we can praise or criticise as much as we want RedV01. We have lost several players and have signed a few replacements which appear to be equivalent to the standard we have lost to an extent but not outstanding that is for sure. We get what we can as per usual and just like kids waiting to open up Christmas presents, there could be big smiles or long faces.
