Well that might put him on $1.2 millPlease tell me we aren't providing him 1 mil, what happened to Wahs pitching in?

If rumours that Hynes is going to the Bears maybe, then that leaves the door open for MetcalfI think the stumbling block will be the contract period. He is a Sharks junior just got married last year has a child, before his extension was on about $600k a year. He would be looking for between $900k - $1m a season
Hmmmm I think both are halfbacks. Plus there is Ah Kee and Hammoud who I think will both be very good 5/8s.I cant see why you think that Metcalf and Reed when he is ready cant be the halves pairing, I know they both said they want to be a 7 but you can still control a side from 6.
Reminds me when we had Fonua-Blake basically signed, sealed and delivered but preferred the Sharks to us. Will it be the same with Metcalf, being a prior junior at the Sharks and will be able to live in a familiar environment for him to raise his kid and maybe others with his wife?If rumours that Hynes is going to the Bears maybe, then that leaves the door open for Metcalf.
Having two 7s in the same team is fine. Having no 7s is bad.Hmmmm I think both are halfbacks. Plus there is Ah Kee and Hammoud who I think will both be very good 5/8s.
But I'm happy with signing Metcalf. As long as it doesn't mean losing Reed.
Win win scenario. I like it. Who is the pivot to Metcalfs half while we wait for Reed. LKT, Atkinson, Flanagan or do we look in lower grade at Hammoud or perhaps Eden Hodges.Metcalf has the qualities of a great 6 so I have no doubt that if Reed was good enough to start in 2028 that Metcalf could ‘pivot’ to the 6 rule or vice versa and they could make it work just fine
It’s a tick for all those possibilities although not too fussed about Watson. Outside backs should now be a priorityman all sorts of rumours flying today let me compile:
Not sure if i've missed any 'or' the accuracy of said rumours.. but far out the news has been flying today.
- Metcalf signed 4yrs - wants to leave early also
- Watson done for 1yr (PNG in 2028)
- Gutho to retire and join coaching staff
- Val tapped
- Suli to Perth
- Young not the 2027 Coach (just added this one)
I would go with AtkinsonWin win scenario. I like it. Who is the pivot to Metcalfs half while we wait for Reed. LKT, Atkinson, Flanagan or do we look in lower grade at Hammoud or perhaps Eden Rogers.
No issue we have heaps of replacements for him.Would we have to release Sua early to make cap space?
100% bringing in these experienced players that have played origin, big finals matches is so important. Watson played origin last year and could be in the squad this year. Immediately improves our squad and is very versatile. Our young players need players to learn from within our squad. Who are the older players taking our young forwards under their wing- showing them what to do or not to do. Our experience forwards are Sua, Leilua and Lawrie. Compare that with who the panthers, broncos, roosters etc have guiding their young talent. Same can be said for Reed and LKT. They are currently learning how to be a first grade half from Kyle and Atko. That can’t be great for their development.I’m all for Watson on a 1 year deal. He’s 30 in June. not tied down to him well into his 30’s and is the perfect modern day ‘middle’
No brainer signing if we can get him specifically for 1 year
I’m all about us having good NRL players even if it’s for a short period of time
He's good. Just don't think we need him. Our middles have done their job for the most part.I’m all for Watson on a 1 year deal. He’s 30 in June. not tied down to him well into his 30’s and is the perfect modern day ‘middle’
