Hmmmm I think both are halfbacks. Plus there is Ah Kee and Hammoud who I think will both be very good 5/8s.
But I'm happy with signing Metcalf. As long as it doesn't mean losing Reed.

Reminds me when we had Fonua-Blake basically signed, sealed and delivered but preferred the Sharks to us. Will it be the same with Metcalf, being a prior junior at the Sharks and will be able to live in a familiar environment for him to raise his kid and maybe others with his wife?
That is probably why the Club is also looking at Croft just in case Metcalf goes to the Sharks to replace Hynes (if he goes to the Bears) and play alongside Tricky Trindall.
Having two 7s in the same team is fine. Having no 7s is bad.

This is true, Thurston/Cronk and Moses/Cleary in the origin stage have proven that
Metcalf has the qualities of a great 6 so I have no doubt that if Reed was good enough to start in 2028 that Metcalf could ‘pivot’ to the 6 rule or vice versa and they could make it work just fine

Win win scenario. I like it. Who is the pivot to Metcalfs half while we wait for Reed. LKT, Atkinson, Flanagan or do we look in lower grade at Hammoud or perhaps Eden Hodges.

It’s a tick for all those possibilities although not too fussed about Watson. Outside backs should now be a priority

I’m all for Watson on a 1 year deal. He’s 30 in June. not tied down to him well into his 30’s and is the perfect modern day ‘middle’

No issue we have heaps of replacements for him.
100% bringing in these experienced players that have played origin, big finals matches is so important. Watson played origin last year and could be in the squad this year. Immediately improves our squad and is very versatile. Our young players need players to learn from within our squad. Who are the older players taking our young forwards under their wing- showing them what to do or not to do. Our experience forwards are Sua, Leilua and Lawrie. Compare that with who the panthers, broncos, roosters etc have guiding their young talent. Same can be said for Reed and LKT. They are currently learning how to be a first grade half from Kyle and Atko. That can’t be great for their development.
He's good. Just don't think we need him. Our middles have done their job for the most part.
