Recruitment & Retention 2027

So 3 spots left in that 30 and 3 spots left Supplementary, more if we can offload a veteran.. or we let go a young one go 12mths early like LKT or Buchanan (if we dont extend them)..

I'm still nervous about fullback and hooker depth, but gutho/kyle technically on the books still... and still curious if we will sign an actual 1st grade centre for 2027 or roll the dice on the young ones.. various random rumours out there about that.

There are also a bunch of promising kids who I think would also be considered for supplementary positions, names like TPH, Heidke, DMeafou, Treweek, Fagalilo, Haele, even Toby Rumble... potentially the better supp candidates could move straight into Top30 on a minimum contract, which maybe allows us to splurge a little with our last spots.
Kyle, Atkinson, Gutho, Suli, Kerr need to go. I still think LKT has promise. He's only 21 after all. But looks like Dan Anderson and supercoach Young don't agree. I see where they are coming from with all the halves just a bit younger than him playing well in the lower grades. So clear LKT out as well.

If Gutho insists on sticking around, I'd like to see him train as a backup hooker.

Do you think Burton does a year or two in Flegg or NSW

Looks like he won't be doing a full year in Flegg. This must mean he'll start in reserve grade next year. Wouldn't surprise me if by the end of next year Holmes is on the wing, Heidke and Burton are centres. I think in the modern game it might be easier for a 18 year-old to start in the centres rather than the wing. Though I guess it depends on how good he is, or how much confidence he has, under bombs.

no one does nepo like we do and this time its the actual definition of it :)
True no other club is amatuerish enough to do it at all let alone the chronic way the Dragons do it but in this case, I don't think Timmo has the power to get his nephew to where he is now in regard to his contract. Give him a chance. How many chances have imports like Atkinson, Gutho and fuking KF had? We aren't even giving an injured 18 year-old a single chance?

you get me wrong - i am always happy to give a kid a chance ...
Just nephew actually meets the literal definition of nepotism.

Honestly, id be on the phone to the NRL get dispensation for round 27 vs Eels and get his NRL debut out of the way ... One game to realise what NRL is then an off season to build up to that.

I also tend to be a litle cavalier in attitudes.
Agressive! I like it. But if he can stay on the field for the next few weeks, I'd give Heidke a chance first. Of course it will depend on how well Burton copes with NSW Cup.

Heidke and Burton are centres
Still holding out hope for Te Moananui, who imho has the most natural skill/talent of the trio. But if as it appears that he is prone to concussion injury, this can lead to a premature medically retired situation as I have seen in cricket. I hope not the case with Lyric. Jesse Williams another with natural talent also seems injury prone. In the last game I saw from him about a month ago he was in one word, brilliant.

He's good but I think he's quite a way behind those other 2. Which is not meant to be any criticism of his ability. Just praise for the other 2.

I have seen a lot more footy from Lyric than Charlie and definitely Ollie. So with respect I must disagree wholeheartedly. The other two are currently ahead of him in the pecking order due to them actually playing and being seen, which must be frustrating the bejesus out of Lyric.
