Round 11 V Broncos

A whopping 92% in the second Jo. That is what wins games. As for ineffective tackling we need to be wary of stopping second phase play. Saw Haas promote the ball several times with 2/3 of our blokes on him.
I still have it as an old retired coach 😆. Haas well he is really the creme de la creme of props. His offloads are near impossible to stop when he's in the mood.

In my day I always told my C and sometimes D defender this prop is an offloading machine. I need you to be up and in position to stop the 2nd phase attacking structure from continuing.

But its never easy against such talented players especially if your middle defenders don't hit the ball carrier simultaneously, one down one up wrapping up the ball carrying hand.

I'd say and correct me if I am wrong that was a decision the coach made on the run as a result of young Egan's injury. Going from 0 to 52 is unusual, sometimes things work when you are under adversity.
As those figures show not first game he has played both once Lidds comes on. Hello coach Cook is not a utility player, cert not a centre as he played in one game. With him on a better utility was given less mins. Was it Jack or Hamish. Not sure who, Luch, who was playing his 150th, perhaps.

Our Loko may be a clone of Payne once he matures.Even now so young and inexperienced he is looking to offload by twisting in the tackle and that is after he has already made 10pcms.
We wont see the best of him for another season or two but boy oh boy if he continues on this projected improvement and stays injury free he has the makings of being something special.

Size will only take you so far it's the continuing ability to develop his skillset which will dictate just how good he will be

Yet the games both were on the longest rounds 6, 7 and 11(and Cook played the "utility role") are 3 of our 4 wins.
Results speak for themselves.

Rewatched our second 40. That was elite class footy.
That has now got to be the benchmark moving forwards. On Monday I would sit the team down and replay that 40 minutes. Then I would say if you had doubts that you could raise your game to this level well here's the proof. Now have some self belief and confidence that you can reach this benchmark on a consistent basis.

I have always said if this team can find consistency especially in this season then we can play semi finals football this season. Time will tell.

Sometimes coaches can be stubborn and don't like to admit they may have been wrong. Let us hope the penny has now dropped as to what is working for us and what doesn't. Sometimes it takes a big man to admit he is wrong but I have found through my own personal experiences there is no shame in it and you gain newfound respect from your playing group. Time will tell

Some teams are having success with smaller ball playing locks, erin clarke & dylan walker. I hope its something we explore further. That was a character building win, not only losing egan early in the game but also playing 10mins with 12 men. I really liked us using holmes around the ruck too, Liddle & Cook had some success in that area too.

I think there's a few good tactics we can use moving forward. Sloan needs to attack every high ball with vigour imo. If he gives away a penalty then so be it but that try was special & shows he's got aeiral ability.

To my eye we really haven't been utilising those players with the necessary speed in and behind the ruck area to make easy metres and in roads. Perhaps this success may change a game plan or 2
