Round 22 vs Canberra

Raiders live wire centre Timoko has got to be watched in the second half. He can dart through two limp defenders just as we saw in the first half. Both tries scored from within our red zone. Got to also keep a close eye on Weekes. He has blistering pace and with the wind behind him in the second half he will be flying.
The weather evened out the first half but our defence let us down in the end.
I would love us to jag a win tonight to get away from the spoon. Not that I wanted Penrith to win but I'm glad the Titans lost sop that they are keeping below us on the table.
My wish came true. You little ripper. Beating the comp leaders. They couldn't score a try in the second half. If we can beat the Raiders we can beat any team. Come on Dragons with all your injuries etc you did really well tonight. The victory song in the sheds will be loud and strong.

God it frustrates me when we take the 2 sometimes, such a negative archaic tactic

Games aren’t low scoring anymore and we barely get in the red zone

Go for the try FFS
I didnt want to say it lol.. but i was fine with the decisions.. were having a rly hard time getting over their line without Val, Sua etc.. Leilua is almost the only one who can create in this situation.

Raiders were awful.. the rain really nullified the kicking gap between the teams.. they rly stuffed it up bar that 1 low kick into touch that fogarty scored.

I know the weather had a lot to do with it, and the Raiders were terrible, but gee we put in and we dug deep, credit where credit is due, well done lads, bloody well done !!
They were absolutely awful.. Fogarty in particular.. he didnt handle the conditions well at all and it rly nullified the huge kicking disparity between the 2 teams.. he had that 1 good low kick into touch from a kick off... but otherwise nothing.. and Kyle kicking those 2 brutal kicks from out wide was the difference...

If they had of won after playing that badly.. I would have been gutted...

Tbf we rly only win when other teams play awful.. well certainly when we r playing injured... id back us at full strength to compete with most... but we still got it done.. and were playing without 10 players or so, Val in particular is so savage to be missing.. hes our only real xfactor..

I don’t think we were great but we made Canberra cra if you get what I mean

dragged them into a shitfight and handled it better than they did

LKT solid, Kyle and Gutho meh

to be honest no one was great but happy with a win of course

What I’m taking from this game is the attacking structures with some more dangerous spine members could be really good

Atkinson over Kyle and if Gutho had a bit more pace we’d be a good attacking side

Egan with his good line running on the left edge will help too

Our 2 biggest wins were in the wet.. Storm and Raiders.... tbf we could have been a number of teams in recent months.. but coulda shoulda.. these wins r rly important.. also gets us a little bit out of that spoon stuff.. not totally safe but this helps a lot.. takes some pressure off beating Souths too.. that could easily be a spoon bowl.. maybe helps seeing penrith steal that late win over the titans today too.

Can only do your best with what you got and play what's in front of you. We did both and came out on top (for once!).

Wet weather footy has always been an equaliser no matter where you sit on the competition ladder. It is because you have to go back to basics.

The basics in attack, are complete your sets in possession, dont make unforced errors in possession, obtain field position, execute your attacking structures and dont look for second phase football in your own half.

In defence simply do not miss tackles and do not give away silly penalties, kick to the corners, find the grass, move up in one line and keep your defensive structures.

The stats tell the tale of this game, possession 56 - 44,
completion rate, 83 - 67
Errors 10 - 15
Missed tackles 13 - 22

4 forwards ran for 100m+ with 2 others close to that mark, 1 for them. We won the forward battle and gained a memorable win over one of the premiership favourites.

Bloody well done fellas you played better and to the conditions and deserved the win.

Sloans ability to get a hand on a ball without catching it though is the stuff of legend.. the amount of 6agains he gives opposition teams.
I was pulling my hair out when in the last 3 min Canberra dropped the ball backward on the 5th tackle. Sloan furiously competed with the Canberra player to dive on the ball and predictably got a touch to knock it forward and give them another 6.

To his credit, he finally seems to be running the ball into the defence with a bit vigour. Not just surrendering. I wonder if the club will be tempted to keep him around after all.

Two best today were Hamish Stewart and JDB. Complimented with a bit more creativity in the halves and a bit more speed in the backs, Hamish Stewart is gonna ba a superstar. Might be even better than Couchmans.
Stewart was great but wasn't on long enough to be MoM in my view. I think Cook probably gets it. LKT would have been right in contention if it wasn't for that second Canberra try when he needlessly rushed in to tackle Fogerty.
