I don't disagree but a captain must also know where and when to delegate and must also trust his teammates to do the things they specialise in.That's a little bit harsh. As a captain you need to lead, show leadership qualities and sometimes you take too much responsibility, on occasion this can be done sub consciously. In this instance our captain is our chief playmaker therefore you would expect him to shoulder the majority of the on field calls and create attacking options on just about every set of attacking 6. This is the issue you have when you do not have a 2nd attacking option (Amone) therefore we look pedestrian and slow in attack and defence. If the coach believes he needs to be reigned in then that's where you have to have a personal chat with him so its very important you place trust in your captain and visa versa. Its not an easy gig by any means especially when the team is continually losing and we now have unfortunately exactly that, a culture of losing. I honestly believe I saw glimpses of positive actions last night, i.e. Lomax finally running the ball taking on the defence and being selective with his passing he is regaining his confidence. All it will take to turn this season around is a win to build confidence and perhaps some consistency. From an old coaches perspective the team appears to be fatigued which would mean to me that they were pushed too hard physically in the pre season hence the plan not to have as many trials as all the other teams, they may have overdone it, if so it will take time to replenish the physical side of the game. Time will tell but I am expecting another improved performance at home against the Knights which will be the tonic many in the team need right now. I really expect us to beat the Knights if what I saw last night continues.
