Round 9: St. George Illawarra v Wests Tigers

This should be Guler's final chance, if he can't get close to 100m or show some attacking skills like offloads etc then he should be dropped. Interested to see how our right side operates with Kyle on the right, I hope it's better defensively. Excited & nervous for this game, unsure which Dragons side shows up.
I know Blocka has been sliding for a while, especially since the 6 again rule started, but if Gular has another bad game and Blocka still isn't recalled, will it be similiar to the Sione Finau situation? Coach just doesn't rate him no matter what?

Blocker has been better than Guler, I don't think it's a no matter what but they've both got a short leash imo. Maybe Flanno believes he can get more out of Guler than Blocker?

Blocker sealed his fate late in the game when he flew out of the line, whiffed his tackle on Sandon who made him look like a fool and cost us another try, that alone wouldve pissed Flanno off no end given how bad the game was already and it wouldve been his 3rd or 4th missed tackle at that point. Guler probs gets another game or two after coming back from the suspension but I think (hope) Loko is right there ready to grab that bench spot when he gets the chance, otherwise if Sele is fit you'd think he gets the next chance.

Edit - It was earlier then I thought in the second half not the Hugo try I was thinking of after his interchange.

I see. I didn't watch until the end. Missed that but his stats compared to Gular's tell a story regardless of one more try rubbing salt into the wound.

Does anyone doubt Flanno has his favourites who have to screw up consistently and badly to be even considered for demotion while others, like Sione Finau, can't fart in the toilet without getting demoted?

What has happened to Flanno? He used to be much better than this.

ok here we go, lets hope we show some resolve, yes im worried about our halves, yes im worried about our forwards. If we just stay in the game without collapsing like a deck of cards like against the chooks we'll have a chance. Go the dragons !!!!

Agree, you would have thought being his 150th it would have been a better performance. no way he's at the Dragons for much longer, regardless of his contract.

Flanno is struggling badly. Thanks for saying it. I'm not allowed. I really hope he can turn it around and I think he can.

I see that Nathan Lawson is still listed as a reserve for the game. I would like to see him come in as a late substitution for Corey Allen. Whilst Allen is probably the better defender, Lawson offers more in attack, and I feel we will need plenty of points on the board if we are to win this week.

I'm a bit confused, I've seen Lawson play in the centres as well as Allen, now they are on the wing. I think that winger is a specialist position, I dont think Sloan has mastered it yet either. I would have left Finau there for another chance.

Flanno says:
Kyle Flanagan is expected to shoulder the organising responsibilities.
“Kyle always has responsibility,” Shane said.
“He will do his job. His role will change a little bit.”

He will do his job. I seriously can hardly stand this any more. Is his job to simply catch and pass?

The delusion is out of all control.
I feel for Flanno on this. He's blinded by love for his only son. This is on Dean Young. He has to pull Flanno aside and lay down the law regarding Kyle. It will ruin his relationship with Flanno but as is, the entire coaching staff is going to get sacked anyway. Better Deano walks away. His name is big enough that he can find a job elsewhere but that's unlikely for Carr. That's why it has to be Deano.

Ryan Carr’s done a great job as the attack coach.

Look at his spine FFS, there’s no game breaking ability in the halves and Gutherson’s got zero pace but good ball playing

If he had Atkinson/LKT in the halves with the game plan we have each week we’d be 4-3 or 5-2 I have no doubt in my mind

I am 50/50 on whether Finau should have been retained this week. I was sitting on the eastern side of the ground on Friday night and I had a pretty good view of the sideline. In defence, Finau seemed unsure of when to come in and take the inside man or when to stay on his wing and hope someone would cover the inside attacker. Of course, he and Sloan are capable of scoring from broken play and long range tries. In relation to Lawson, he would not be my first-choice winger at this stage of his development, but as we are down to number four, I think he is probably next up.

Deserves a bit more than one chance, doesn't he? It's not as if he was that bad.

I read a comment, I think it was here, about turning Gutho into a halfback, Ben Hornby style. I have little doubt he could pull it off. I have more doubt about Sloan playing fullback again. He had a few good games there but badly let us down much more often.

Also, Flanno has to admit recruiting Cook was a mistake. Liddle is much better nowadays. Their roles should be reversed. Liddle should be playing most of the game and Cook should be coming on to give him a rest.
