Just seen it again and remember it well , it went to Hunt , he had no idea what to do with the ball as usual , so he puts up again a useless bomb that just went nowhere ...... But it happened to end up with a dragon player , from there on it looked ok , but definitely not a try of the year ........ https://www.dragons.com.au/news/2023/09/27/feagai-claims-dally-m-try-of-the-year-nod/
I didn't remember it but I bet after the try was scored the commentators were going crazy about 'the brilliant bomb' put up by Hunt.

To me it wasn't even a good try. One bad bomb, a series of pass-and-hope passes without anyone having much of an idea, a kick-and-hope kick, a lucky bounce.

In my books a good try is one using skill and daring.

Anyway, still glad we won it. As long as commentators don't start talking about how, "Ben Hunt set up the try of the year."

Maybe we are being too harsh on him. Commentators talk him up so much, he started to believe his own hype. It went to his head. Just a random thought. It's the off season. Why not😇?

I remember saying at the time that try was due to the Sloan vision of knowing our outside backs were unmarked.. it was only a matter of him nailing the accuracy, which he almost did to perfection, perhaps a touch long as betting he wanted it to land in someones arms instead of it bouncing.

Bookies install the Dragons as favourites for 2024 wooden spoon

Shane Flanagan’s appointment as St George Illawarra Dragons head coach has done little to impress bookmakers, who are about to launch their betting markets for next year’s NRL premiership.
The TAB has revealed the Dragons will be wooden spoon (most losses) favourites when the official market for 2024 opens after the grand final.

It probably makes sense considering their captain keeps saying he’s there under sufferance and that they’ve been quiet in recruitment.

The Dragons will be a shorter price than even the Wests Tigers, who have finished stone motherless for the last two seasons.

St George Illawarra will be listed as $67 outsider to win the competition, with the Wests Tigers at $52. They should both be double those odds.

Whichever team wins the grand final on Sunday will no doubt be installed as the favourites.

Dragons land new sponsor

“We are delighted to announce this partnership with New Era.”

St George Illawarra Dragons have confirmed that New Era - a headwear apparel company - will sponsor the club for the next three years. In a media statement, the Dragons confirmed that the sponsorship will apply to both the club's NRL and NRLW squads until the end of the 2026 season. This is the first NRLW partnership for the New Era company.

“We are delighted to announce this partnership with New Era,” said Dragons CEO Ryan Webb. “In particular we are pleased that this partnership applies across both our men's and women's squads for the next three years as we continue to make strides in building a thorough and professional women's program. “I'd like to thank New Era for their show of faith in what we are building here at the Dragons.”

Bit of good news.

Hat maker? As long as they are paying, not a problem. Better than SIRLFC.

Sounds promising. Could we set up a salary cap like the Sydney Rorters? Ship every veteran off to the ESL or a struggling club and use his money to sign the best young players.
Seems like maybe the Gordon's look at it as a money making business but the Rorters are personal for Politis.

Dragons set for billionaire backing in sponsor shake-up

St George Illawarra are already backed by one of Australia’s richest men and another could be upping his support for the club.

St George Illawarra are already backed by one of Australia’s richest men and another could be upping his support for the club as a company owned by billionaire Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest holds serious discussions over increasing their commitment to the Dragons.

Squadron Energy, founded by Forrest, will be on the back of the Dragons’ jersey in 2024 and Sunday Sesh understands talks have been held over the prospect of taking up the major sponsorship when St George Bank walks away at the end of the season.

It is understood the deal will be worth more than the $1 million the bank tips in annually. St George Bank, the Dragons’ long-time major sponsor, have already informed the club of plans to depart, leaving the front of the famous Red V up for grabs.

The deal isn't secured yet but looking likely.

The deal is done and it won't be his only involvement.
