Riccio definitely spoke with Flanno earlier in the week.. Riccio came out with a detailed list of our current injury situation, and that we had a large amount of cap space ready for a June 30 signing.. the way he spoke was like flanno had put the words in his mouth.. my point is we have cash now and 2 spots.. but can we find anyone external, or are we gonna have to burn the cash and maybe upgrade a lawson and a liu or some such...
Just as long as it's not another fringe first grader like Gular or Ilias. In that case, better to upgrade Liu, Nick T or even Halangahu.

Yep agree, we have to be really careful with anyone signing for 2026 or beyond... but in terms of someone coming like klemmer for just 6 months.. i think all good.. were just gonna need another first grade prop or im nervous were gonna lose a lot of winnable games through the rest of the year.

Klemmer goes ok. Runs hard, makes metres in the first 15min when the hits are the hardest. Gular, not so much.

Do agree, im not sure about Klem and Jack for next year because our data point is May 2025.. at their age its so hard to know what they look like in 3 months time, let alone 12 months time..I just dunno how its all playing out behind closed doors.. i.e. are we having some success in our quest for better props? or will we have to wait till end of year again and hope to get lucky in the off-season? But we will have to make a call on Klem/Jack before then.. hope they keep going well though, it will really help us out.

And yah thats what went wrong with Guler.. he was a very late january jag.. and gotta admit I thought he would go better than he has.. maybe he will get there yet.. and then ironically someone who was on the market and we didnt go for in Horse is going gangbusters.. someone who most fans thought was rubbish.. and then someone like RCG who we had over the line.. hasnt set the world alight either.. I mean how do you make calls on this stuff.. were not gonna get sure things, weve just got to back our decisions over time and hope most come off.

Jack needs to be extended for another year. Still now he's arguably our best middle forward. Specially if hopefully some or all of Blocka, Sele, Gular can be shipped off.

Gotta agree Jd. All three failed to live up to their hype after winning the '19 Ball final. The old case of buckling under the pressure of expectation me thinks. Happens often in cricket too.
A whole lot of mismanagement went into these 3 RVH both on and off the field. For starters Hunt was supposed to mentor our young halves, wtf did he do except to show them how to screw a club over !!!

I think with 1 year left, it might be easier to move on Lawrie and/or Ravalawa, maybe we pay some freight.. hopefully Rav is a bit more open to moving now that hes done it once before.. assuming souths dont want to retain him ofcourse.

Sele I think we will know before then if he can get back to fitness.. and then there is someone like Ilias who we will just see what goes down there.. but im sure Braith will go hunting for somewhere else if Ilias isnt getting game time before then... but if he cant find a new home.. we might need to eat that contract also..

I see one of them a long term starting prop with LPT
Where you and I differ. I see LPT and Jake H as our future starting props. Tell you why Jake. He has a habit of hiding our wide and waiting for the ball to come to him. I think his coach has had a word in his ear as he has been more involved infield last few matches with some powerhouse hit ups. Doubt he will make his debut on the edge if coming off the bench. More likely he will be a middle...

Remember Jake is eligible for SG Ball but is playing, for the most part very well, in NSW Cup.

I think he'll be a star edge forward and Couchmans can play on an edge or in the middle but almost everyone seems to agree they're better in the middle.

Am aware of his age. I see a debut for him sometime this year despite his tender years.
Yes Couchies can play either edge or middle as they are so versatile. Dead set we have an embarrassment of emerging forward riches. Not likely we can keep them all, so our best keeps need to be put on long term contracts.

Yep, but only one bookend, LPT is ready for Firsts . Name me two young props after him. Those middles you alluded to are all backrowers. The only possible other one is Jett Liu. We need a player similar to Klemmer, a seasoned, tuff as teak guy, plus with an offload and can make it past the advantage line. We had one in our sites Campbell-Gillard but were too crap to land him.
Not signing RCG was the best thing we did all offseason. 3 years would have been way too long, he already looks way off the pace now and he wanted good coin too

thank god we missed out

Absolutely agree both brothers have done a great job considering their ages. Ryan has done what JDB did in previous years taken a hit for his team and club by playing a bookend and that is as a direct result of being unable to attract a decent experienced bookend into the club in the last 4 yrs.
What's with not rating Toby or Ryan to be very good props? They are far from the smallest props. I know jodragon40 jodragon40 likes to bang on about a big prop and I've come around to that too but not every prop needs to be like that. In the 4 man rotation most teams only have 1 big prop and Penrith haven't even had that for a few years. Toby and Ryan are both heavier than Penriths starting props from the last 4 years.

I'm going to be really pi$$ed off if the Titans manage to offload/retire him before he serves his 3yrs.. he basically picked the 3yr contract over our 2yr offer, but the Titans should face the consequences in the back half of that contract period when hes struggling...

He probably would have been good for us though in terms of that big body we wanted.. they are all a gamble though.. even if we signed someone like NAS, hes a complete beast but hes also quite capable of slipping into a mess with his discipline, weight and injury.. any one 30 or older is a ticking time bomb.. but signing genuine quality middles in their 20's is nearly impossible for us.. plus they are all locked up.... we will have to be very shrewd and find someone whos keen to agitate.

I thought Flanno might have given up on that big bodied, youngish prop and instead decided to fast track LPT. Liu killing it in reserve grade is also a big body, isn't he?
