NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg, 2025

In 5yrs if not sooner I can see Lyric, Jessie and Charlie carving up defenses for us with Kade calling the shots. How impressive was Lyric's last try. Magic step on their fullback while Jessies intercept showed the benefit of an extra weeks fitness.
Saw him a few years back, pretty sure he was in Matts with Loko, Latu and i thought he was the standout player in the game, pretty sure he is from Parramatta Fairfield Pats,
Correct on both counts. Apart from playing for the Dragons he also plays for Syria Rugby League. Did not know they even played the game.

Another of our bookends with a big engine is Ryan Hutchinson. This guy does much of our grunt work week in week out and never takes a backward step. He has some ball skill too. Like us to keep him.
Reported by Mug Fan Mug Fan he is already signed up for a train and trial deal next year. I've had a high opinion of him for a while but apparently he's probably not ready for top 30 just yet. Maybe in another year. But runs hard, tackles hard, stays on for a long time and has a pass and offload. Need him ASAP.

  • Fifita after what I thought was his best game by far in the NRL has been dropped to extended reserves so along with Lawrie will play prop.
  • I wonder why #18 is 18th man with #3 vacant? Dropped?
  • #5 promoted after only 2 or 3 games back from long-term injury! I guess they really do see a big future for him.
  • BMM is another, like Lawrie who goes very well in NSW Cup but NRL seems a bit much for both at this point.
  • After the best win of the season by far last week, a couple promoted to NSW Cup and a couple....... injured? I don't know but couldn't have been dropped. Specifically Heidke and TPH.
  • Nice to see #6 back with a big game last week.
  • Lets hope even without the big outs, they can maintain the good form so as to qualify for the finals. If all the Flegg elibible players from NSW Cup come back at some stage..... how good will the team be? Though I don't think Halangahu and Buchanan will be eligible.

Big step up for TPH, he had a good game last week but I dont think hes the one moving forward.. but good on him hope he goes good in cup.

Few rumours that BRumble was being let go mid-season, but havent heard anything official, and tbh hes not on an nrl contract anyway so maybe june 30 doesnt matter?

Great to see CST, Liu and Hutcho up in cup... that said its a huge talent drain out of Flegg for the week.

I hope both lower grades can make the finals. Assuming the NRL team misses out, those 2 teams will be absolutely stacked for the finals.

NSW Cup Notes (30-22 Win):

First Half:

  • 22-4 @ Half-Time with Manly scored on the half time buzzer.. otherwise quite dominant from us.
  • Halves have been brilliant, Glover divine as always, Ilias with some nice movements, he looks hes really trying to generate something I suspect contract wise, but he had a banana kick early which Glover seemed to know was on and was right on the spot to catch it and score.
  • Liu looked way better than he did in flegg.. hes been our best by far.. played the entire 40 minutes.. if this isnt a test I dunno what is..
  • Lyric and Williams both had some good moments, WIlliams his finishing (though he bombed one that led to that manly try the following set.. he had it knocked out as he went for the big dive), Williams still has heaps to learn defensively though, he rushes out a lot on his own and puts the team under pressure. Lyric great in the air in particular and good pace.
  • Heidke and Buchanan both solid.. Heidkes acceleration is deceivingly good for his size, rly puts defence under pressure.. needs to find some synergy with his support players and winger, but hes in a different team each week.
  • Everyone else has been decent, not sure ive seen CST or Treweek yet.. but Nick has been very solid in the 2nd row.. bout time hes got the jersey, hes the boost of energy and speed 1st grade needs (with Egan being out).
Second Half:
  • Not too much else to add in the 2nd half.. Manly had most of the running, we just did enough to stay in front.. with a Heidke try in the 62minute.. rising above the pack to catch a bomb and regain his feet as he always does and put it down.... genuinely think he could play wing with his skillset, but he handles centre perfectly.. so why mess with it I guess.
  • Few good moments from Manly, but we were sort of coasting a bit and just things didnt quite come off.. couple of intercept chances we dropped too.. Lyric went down untouched with what looked like a serious injury, but maybe a cramp as he played on..
  • Probably the highlight though was on the fulltime buzzer, Manly were really going after us even though they couldnt win with the 8pt lead left.. and took an epic effort from TPH, and then Ilias/Glover to stop a length of the field try, holding them up over our tryline to finish the game... TPH was rly good today also.. got run over 1 time on his tryline by a big bopper.. but was rly strong.. obv hurts not having Ramsey though.
  • Not a wonderful game, but I think we should be pretty proud of the effort, to get back on our winning way.
