Recruitment and Retention for 2026

He had a good run. Club treated him well. Was probably the right time to let him go. We won't have to wait long to see. He had a few below par games last year.
Disagree. Every player has an off day. Jack for mine had fewer and was our heart and soul. He had another year in him in his beloved RedV and with his desire to remain a one club man, he'd have killed his swan song.

the club decided that they didnt want him ... they didnt want that type of character in and amongst our excellent crop of juniors.
So whilst he may have been able to offer something on the field (for diminishing returns) the club wants and demands more from its leaders.

It is a risk because it relies on Sele being more fit than ever and Stewart stepping into the middle role but the club will be better long term putting the cancerous antics of Jack behind us.

Sele showed int he knights trial he can take it to the Knights middle (which was their starting 8/10/13) ... and is a more excellent person off field genuinely loyal to his family and a man of integrity. On field and off field leaders like him and off field mentors like BMM are going to be worth a lot to us in years to come. No hiding under the bed knowing he has done the wrong thing here.

Whilst it is your perogative to hero worship any flea you like i am happy with the club taking a stand here.

I might be wrong but I think he's nothing but a good influence on younger players. Couchman's mentioned specifically that he's a good influence. But I agree with the club cutting him loose. Still a good player but we have 3 younger, bigger, faster versions of him in T and R Couchman and Stewart.

And purely speculative, without an iota of evidence, I wouldn't be surprised if the sales and marketing staff, the one's whose job it is to gain sponsorship revenue, are happy to see the back of him due to BBQ-gate and other things he was falsely accused of. I hope this isn't true.

He’s a terrible influence, yes maybe good at footy on field and perhaps the training paddock, terrible off the field. Remember one night in Mudgee after his fiasco was over he continued his antics (obviously learning nothing from previous mistakes) good riddance!

Here is one for the ages guys and a huge tick for Dean Young who has copped undeserved flack on here. The Dragons missed the fewest tackles in the comp last season, so thanks to Deano we no longer have a soft middle. We'll be even stronger when KK joins us next year. Atko needs to add effective tackling as a priority for all future recruits.
On one hand your right but one the other you may not be. Im a stats man as everyone knows and yes you are correct in saying that our missed tackles has improved markedly.

Last season the Dragons missed the least tackles, the Panthers missed the most.

But the pay-off for that is our defensive line speed is non existent therefore metres made in a set of 6 on avg we rated very poorly finishing 15th

Very unreliable source saying Averillo close to being done for 26 or 27.. if he was right, how do you guys feel about it, he gives us depth 1-6, but where would he genuinely improve us? Fullback with Gutho to 6 or?

How bold is he now? 26 or 27? Why aren't they recruiting 18 year-olds? If it was Flanno I'd say a par for the course but DA is doing that now.

Lets see can fill in at 1, could be a stop gap until Burton is ready, that could be 3-5 years away, which means you move Gutho to centre or halves.. can play wing, but i doubt he comes here to play wing, can play centre, club may see Suli as expendable and move him on, can play 6 But but but but we have a roadblock there...

Maybe Flanno is more open to Kyle moving now.. I dunno the answer.. hes not a dream signing.. but he would bring a lot of speed to us.. if hes a genuine 1 i think it works.. esp if he can come for 26.. 27 im not as excited.

Averillo isn't someone I would be signing. He hasn't been able to lock down a first grade spot by 26. He looks like another C grade signing to me and someone other clubs are happy to let go.

Best thing is the amount of abuse I copped for being against the Gutherson signing. Now after one year people are clamouring for someone as average as Averillo to take his place. Classic stuff!!! Taking a highly paid but unwanted Parra veteran off the books for them so they could sign a very promising young fullback is reason enough to sack Flanno on the spot.

Dolphins would've paid for 1/3 of this year's salary. Assume we're getting him for this season too. Personally would like to see him at 5/8th or fb but maybe that ship has sailed for this year.

We might also be waiting to see what's liddle return date. If its actually 2 or way later. That way Kyle would have to cover cook and potentially opens the door for jake to play at 5/8th.

Gutho still has plenty to add for 2026. He’s no chopped liver
