Lets be honest, everyone knows its a bit of nepotism blah blah, but factually, He was in the running for the Knights job, he probably wouldve got the cowboys job if they sacked Payten, was AC of NSW & Tonga, legend of the club, he was one of probably 3 in the NRL that were next in line for a coaching job anywhere.

I wish him all the best, he has no excuses next year as the squad assembled is the best we have had in years. I truly believe we have all the staff in the right place for him to succeed, new COE, great players, just need to nail the assistant coaches. I'm not opposed to Trent Barret or Hornby think they would both be great.

Lets not bitch and moan theres no point, lets just pray for all the young forwards to re-sign and then let the good times roll.
Not having a go at you Random but It was only media reports that he was in the running for the knights job & I’m not sure about the cowboys either. If you believe the media that the club has done an extensive search for a coach which we all know is BS then how can you believe the knights situation.

I’ll continue supporting the club regardless but I’m not expecting any great success. Happy to be proven wrong.

The thing which irritates me is how they talked incessently about "not being in a hurry in order to get it right" when now we all know Deano was locked in from at least when Flanno was sacked if not sooner. No one else was considered.

After the Canberra game 3 weeks ago, I thought they can't give it to Deano after that. It's just too incompetent and amatuerish even for them. But nope, they just don't care.

Maybe I'm wrong and he'll be a good coach but do those idiots in the front office not care about results at all? They gamble on a perennial loser as a coach to suddenly turn it around? Is that being professional?

"Not being in a hurry to announce Dean Young as the head coach until Young gets it right"?? Maybe this was what they meant Eric haha! and they completely ignored how the team played against the Raiders and thought wow we beat the Tigers and competed well against the Warriors and then that was the right time to say that Dean got things right and that is all they needed to officially announce his signing.

The selection panel and Board at the Dragons just wanted Young - I wouldn't be surprised that they got Flanno to resign so that they could put Deano in charge and Shane agreed provided that Deano kept Kyle playing half back for the rest of this year, subject to him being injury free. Another sarcastic haha!

Whilst they were inundated with interest – including that of a contracted head coach – they had a long list of about 12 candidates.

Names such as Brad Arthur, Trent Barrett, Ben Te’o and Michael Cheika have been linked to the job.

Shortly after they whittled that list down to five who were formally interviewed by Watsford, the Dragons second-most capped player Creagh and long-term former head coach turned recruitment officer Anderson.

That process became even smaller when they cut to list by three. It is understood that two board members from each
side of the partnership sat in on the final round of interviews.

12 candidates include a current coach
And FMD the best candidate was right under our noses.

I suppose out of the 12 candidates, a number would have knocked us back, like Arthur and Cheika. They had to go through the process of elimination until the last 3 of Deano, Hornby and ? had to be voted on by the joint venture Board members. Young it was and we now have to grin and bear it and pray that Deano will have success.

IMO they've been taking us for idiots since the beginning. We all know Deano waa locked in a long time ago and there was no search for a new coach. They just hoped results would turn around to justify their decision.

Close game against the Warriors who frankly speaking, won't go far in the finals unless Metcalf comes back and plays like he was at the start of last year. After the win against the free-falling Tigers. They decided now was going to be as good as it got.

Anyway, I hope he proves me wrong. With the right assistants and DA looking over his shoulder, he might surprise us in a good way. But what a gamble on a bloke who has thus far proven to be a very poor coach and assistant coach.

I would suggest that the media cover story lacks credibility

I'm looking at it from the perspective as I was very upbeat about Hook and Flanno who both, especially the latter, turned out to be unbelievably bad. I'm very downbeat about Dean Young so he might turn out very good.

Young needs to back his appointment up by winning against the Titans at home on Sunday , or it will all start again ........
