2022 Recruits

You would have to imagine they are planning to upgrade several younger players. Maybe Amone is going to be so good he will be on a mil a year by the end of this season.
Josh Coric for example is good, young forward who was supposed to be in line for an upgrade to the top 30 squad but that's looking unlikely for this year. Still one more spot open but I don't understand why Griffin would be waiting and waiting to upgrade him if it were going to happen this season. Siurely he has seen enough to make a determination by now. Maybe Griffin does in fact one a specialist hooker as backup.

I think that would be the right move

Griffin is really. What are we going to do with Mbye? Utility on the bench? So what are we going to do with Bird? Centre? So what are we going to do with Suli? Bird is going to be a backrower? So what are we going to do with Su'A? Seems we are a little light in the front row so I can understand signing Molo and Burgess. When Alvaro is in the 17, we have a problem. If some of those recruits are "depth signings" as they said for Moga, surely some of our local guys would be better. Feagai x 2, Sullivan, Aomne, Sloan in my opinion look the goods. Suli was kept in reserve grade by Morgan Harper......
After listening to Griffin I believe this will be close to the starting 13
Sloane
Rav
Lomax
Suli
Ramsey
Amone
Hunt
Debelin
Sua
Sims
Lawrie
McCullough
Molo
Bench unlimited for Parramatta trial but should include
Woods
Burgess
Bird
Mbye
We will know shortly

That'll be the round 1 team. In the first trial I wouldn't be surprised if he rests some of the older but certain starters for round 1. I'm thinking Hunt, Macca, JDB Sims.

Only 2 trials? Vs Para and the Charity shield?

What are we looking for in the trails or what do we want to happen and who should play in which game?

As there are only 2 games I think the best 17 Hook has in mind for round one should be in both trials but only for a limited amount of game time. Like half a game or less in each trial for Hunt in particular. Though that could depend on how the coach deems his partnership with Amone is. They would have been working on it the entire off season so I don't think they should need a lot of time in the trials.

That could probably go for Macca as well given the lack of another specialist hooker for backup. If Mbye is supposed to be the replacement at hooker, he needs more time there than Macca. JDB, Su'a, Sims could probably play a little longer. Bird is the mystery. What is going to happen with him? Other spots in the pack should be up for grabs so given all the contenders as much time as possible.

For Amone I'm not sure. I guess given him the entire games. Why not?

In the backs, Lomax probably doesn't need to play more than a half each game. That goes for Rava too. Put both Feagai's on for a half together and see what they can do. The other side of Suli and Ramsey is one which needs work.

Sloan is in the same boat as Amone. Why not leave him on for the entirety of both games?

To be honest, a win the in the Charity Shield would be nice.

Looks like Jarryd Hayne might become available at some point this season.......
If he were 5~7 years younger and a second rower or prop, provided he is found not guilty he would be a great signing. But he's not 5~7 years younger, not a second rower or prop and has already been found guilty once.

Sloan after his display the other night has in my opinion sealed the fullback spot. In regards to your idea in relation to the backs unfortunately that will not work in my view quite simply because it takes time to created combinations both in attack and defence. I would be shocked if Lomax and Rav are not teamed up again they were dynamic last season in the short time they had together. I believe Ramsay will be on the other wing and for mine Bird is a certain starter at lock he earnt that as a result of what he gave up for the team last year playing in any position that was required, thats a team man and you dont start team men from the bench. I still feel our best bet is the 4 prop rotation policy with the other 2 bench spots one should be Mbye because of his ability to play at hooker or in the backs. Time will tell if the coach sees it the same way.

So JDB prop for you? Or JDB on the bench and Bird starting?

JDB nowhere near prop he is 2nd row or lock
Agree. JDB starting at lock, Bird coming on after the opposition big forwards have tired a little. JDB to come on as a middle in his second stint with Bird remaining on the field until full-time.

Yep, Sloan has fullback sealed. We might be saying that for the next 10 years. Yep, Lomax and Ravalawa on the same side. They are a weapon in attack and defence. At the end of last season I thought one of the Feagai's might push Ramsey out of the team but no, it appears Hook has plans for Ramsey.

Don't think Bird will start. Not because he isn't good enough. And it's a game of 17 now regardless. Jack de Belin lock, Sims and Su'a second row. If anything, Bird will start in the centres again but I doubt that as well. The game has evolved and he's gotten bigger. In the absence of injury, he's a forward now.

Mbye is a good utility but we already have Bird who is also a good utility. I don't think it matters. Bird will come on in the forwards. Mbye's ability to play hooker means it'll be hard to leave him out of the 17.

In 6 weeks when McGuire, obviously one of Hook's favourites, comes back it'll be interesting.

McGuire will be a bench forward when he does eventually return, at least he will be fresh by then and if we pick up any injuries in the meantime that will help us. In regards to Bird I thought he took one for the team last year playing out of position, his avg run mtrs is about 121 p.g, compare that with say Sims last season was only 90m . Look im not the coach but Id be picking Bird over Sims any day of the week, he made about 3.7 line breaks from those runs whereas Sims made 1.67, in post contact mtrs (after being met in a tackle) Bird made 920m for the season, Sims 738m. Sims for a SOO player disappointed me greatly last season, I couldnt find a starting spot for him this season. In my view I wouldnt start Bird in the centres we have an abundance of talent to fill the one centre spot, I'd give it to Suli because of his ability to break the line. I would suggest Lawrie starting with Woods/Burgess/Molo fighting for the other starting prop spot, McCullogh hooker, 2nd rowers & hooker Debelin, Bird, Sua. Time will tell.

Serious? Looking at that, I'd pick Bird as well but Sims in an incumbent Origin backrower.
