ANZAC Day v Roosters

Is this the first local junior halfback given his debut at no 7 since Matty Head? If memory serves, Drew Hutchinson’s debut was off the bench with JDB starting at 7

I think the answer is Adam Clune in 2020

Other notable debuts in the halves:
Dean Byrne in 2003 ... Head debuted from the bench.
Bud debuted at 5/8 outside Clune
Richie Williams debuted at 5/8 in 2007 and had a blinder
Drew Hutchison debuted at 7 Round 18, 2015 - The DeBelin game was his 2nd game in Round 23
Import Darren Nicholls debuted at 7 for us in 2018 in what was close to the worst game for try causes in NRL history in a 52-30 loss to the storm (did Nighty play prop that game)

Interesting.. I mean I originally thought Halangahu could only really make it in 1st grade as a middle.. a shorter Taumalolo.. I just thought with his young age we might give him 1-2yrs on the edge first.. but time rolls on.. if hes considered a middle, that does negate some of our 2nd row depth.. but also fixes our middle depth... and Ryan is a good backup for 2nd row even if CST doesnt come on as we had hoped (still TBD). Would be exciting if we had the 4 of the young middles extend (Jacob, Loko, Toby & Ryan before Nov 1), that's basically our future pack + KK and Stewart.

Hopefully that means Nick is more seriously considered as our right edge 2nd rower moving forward.. more in 2027.. but be nice to get him some 5-10 games this year.

Hope Egan stays fit.. I hate getting excited about certain blokes in certain positions and then they r goneskies for long periods.

Rev, I think you’ll find the young blokes will be thought of more seriously under Dean and Willie compared to Flanno

Yes I forgot about Clune. There was also Brett Firman and Daniel Holdsworth

Interesting takes re. Halangahu moving positions. He’s so good that he’ll excel anywhere imo.

With the amount of backrowers we have I think Jake is the most likely to succeed by converting to a middle, has the body shape of one and it’s different to our other middles which is a good thing.

Lots of 6’2 + middles we have so having a shorter stockier build in there could work well

The only thing I personally don't like about that interview is the way he refers to the new coach by 1st name.

I know Im old but nobody I ever coached would refer to me as Joe, nor did I ever when I played refer to any coach by his first name.

Its just a little thing that I will probably cop a ribbing from a few of you about but its just the way I was brought up.

Anyway I'll be watching our 7 make his 1st grade debut and that's always an exciting time.

Old school doesn’t happen much in life anymore mate. These younger generations are a different breed now days. Work, sport, life in general.

Because he appears to have a level head on his young shoulders as shown by his media appearance today. May as well embrace it & try to treat it like a normal game. Even though it’s not.
Part and parcel of being a professional nrl
player. Personally, I didn’t have an issue with it. You can’t hide him on the field. Let him take it all in. I thought he went well

So I've spent big $$$ to support my team once again on Anzac Day. Fly down from the Goldie to Sydney the night before, 2 nights accommodation in the Sydney CBD.

Then march the next morning wearing my Dads medals.

Then off to the game, 2 x h/way tickets . Then dinner with friends at Darling Hbr and celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary.

Can the big red V rise to the occasion.? Im hoping its not the same as the last 2 Anzac Days. 60 - 18 in 24 and 46 - 18 last year.

Probably too big and ask to give young Reed a go on such an important and solemn day.

Apart from suspension and injuries it may well be the 17 plus 2 as indicated by Mug Fan Mug Fan apart from the obvious mistake wishful thinking by @Dave03 in his list in relation to the 7 position.
Massive effort.

I wrote to an American military scholar a few years back and he let me know that himself and some of his academic buddies also celebrate Anzac Day in the US.

They love their Aussies.

kick their asses Dragons, no mercy, ffs get it done.
