Best 17 for 2025

IMO it has to be the top priority. Then some fast backs. Then a big prop.
Need a bit more quality right across the team. In the forwards, halves and backs. I can only see it coming from the juniors. Being named 18th man this week surely means LKT has been penciled in to play NRL next year.

The biggest bonus would be Aston Ward being able to play halfback. Now Cook has been signed and doubtful other clubs would want Hunt unless Dragons were paying a very large part of his salary, I guess it's better to give Ward a full year in NSW Cup and then hopefully bring in 2026.

One of the guys emailed Webb today, and amongst a few other things, he mentioned SFinau is seen as the wing replacement for 2025.

First I have heard anyone talk about him.. I think its the right call.. he's done his 2yr nsw cup apprentiship, he will be 22 or 23, I think hes as good a chance as anyone else of success.. and its really only his injuries that stopped him playing some more 1st grade.... and its his injuries that do worry me... but hes got a good long break and hopefully a full preseason.

but the other reason I find it interesting, is that Sione is one of the guys poachable from Nov 1.. actually there are quite a few of them including the Couchmans too.. I thought we had them locked down for longer.

Wouldn't surprise at all if the Couchmans test their value on the market. After the way Flanno has treated them this year. Kyle Flanno will also be a free agent from November 1. Somehow that isn't getting a lot of attention.

This is a nightmare. Club has to extend Couchman's immediately!

Seems we are too slow moving doing this. Guys like to be given security that firstly, they are wanted and secondly that they will be part of the club for the next whatever years.
There will be reasons.. either the Couchies wanted to play well this year to increase their contract worth... and/or they want to wait and see who we recruit externally for 2025... either way I do hope once we finish with our big recruitments, we can get them a nice long deal for these 2 and lock it in before Nov 1st.

They are the sort of age that might be perfect for the Western Bears 2027 franchise, but thats the contract after this anyway, but I suspect thats why we are starting to see a lot of clubs panicking a bit and making 5yr+ contracts.

I rate Finau. I thought he should have been first pick winger this year.

Webb actually mentioned that SFinau was earmarked as the wing replacement for Lomax, its the first time I've heard that and it makes sense.. the kid is ready and tbh if he hadnt got injured I think he would have played a few more games in 1sts. He will probably play right edge outside Suli.

The only fly in the ointment is Allan, im not sure if hes a better prospect than CTui or SFinau... one of them misses out.

Note: The guys that are off contract Nov 1 (i.e. poachable) do include all 3 of those wingers.. so we shall see if/when Flanno wants to extend them... but I'm not as nervous about wingers as I am Couchies cause I think wingers of their level are replaceable, but the couchies I think are 10+yr club stalwarts.

I wouldn't even consider Allen on the wing. He goes ok at fullback because he has ball skills but too slow and not powerful enough to be a decent winger.
