We really need someone who can stamp his authority with management and the players. He has to be someone who doesn't crap on and say yes sir, three bags full sir. He needs to be someone who has the respect of the players and to ensure that they put in week in and out for the years ahead and not shirk at the workload that he tasks them with. High esteem and respect is needed from individuals and team members to the Head Coach. No favoritism shown, each player treated equally and with fairness.

The new Head Coach would need to know what players are truly needed, where they are to play and be able to set workable guidelines for all players to follow. He needs to know the rules backwards, even to the extent of being able to bend them (without penalty) and of course have game plans that the team can adopt that will bring about good results. He definitely needs great attacking and defensive assistant coaches who can run the weekly training drills without any hiccups and these assistant coaches actually know what they have to do to get our attack and defense to be 100% better than what we have - being described presently as the worst attacking team in the comp with our defense leaking too many points.

I am sure that Tim Watsford would have an in depth job check list when interviews are being conducted such as establishing a clear framework for what the next appointment must deliver. A key pillar of that framework is expected to be junior development and recruitment oversight, with the Dragons determined to better retain and nurture their emerging talent within the club system.

The Dragons are placing significant value on ensuring their next coaching appointment is aligned with long-term sustainability rather than short-term fixes, particularly with so much promise emerging from their junior ranks.

Watsford has made it clear that any future coach will need to play a broader role than just first-grade performance, with a strong emphasis on development and recruitment integration and working alongside Daniel Anderson. He says that the club will take several weeks to define the structure and expectations for the role, particularly around pathways and recruitment alignment. He also says that they will have a look at what we need, and that focus is around that connection with our junior elite players and to ensure that they have all the support that they want.
Gee D Dragon David that took some reading but to me it was worth the read, well said sir. Can you forward this to senior management by email?

He’s not my first choice but I can’t whinge for 2 years so gotta get behind him

He’s getting a tune out of the young forwards and to be very fair to him the outside backs are gash + fullback and Kyle are reserve grade standard

We’ll be able to make a much better judgement of his coaching ability 12 months from now

All id like to see at this point is some retention of our young guys to 3 or 4 year deals

I am still hopeful they truly are doing their due diligence... and that they are speaking privately with all of the players also to find out how they really feel about Young.. even though deep inside it it does seem Young will just be given the opportunity for up to 2yrs like the rumours said.. probably wont be too big a payout in his contract either, but tbh hard to see Dad sacking his son.. not unless we've been once again run into the ground... I dont even want to contemplate that as being possible... if its happened even with our new players (all now on longterm contracts) then we are in real strife.

Probably the most important thing to me is the young blokes (and the blokes behind them) have direction and know where they stand... and that they their hard work will be rewarded.. Dean does appear to do that... I would have thought Hornby but would be a far more intelligent coach and man manager though.. just more approachable and with a bigger vocabulary.. but also perhaps more capability to strategise the gameplan.. but do agree if Young gets it, u have to try and get behind him.. though part of me also wants to stick it to the club for such a lazy/nepo selection of the most important position... at a time our brand is so vulnerable... and if we do sign him... we are going to have forums and media full of shane/kyle nepo dialog for his entire tenure... and we will never really know if another coach ever had a shot at the job.

Due diligence is a must. A few of the boys have liked social media posts re young as head coach. He seems to be their preference atm. He also attended the fan forum tonight (I believe). Anyone know if anything interesting was said?
