Kyle Flanagan & the coach

Why would either have been under pressure when Kyle was signed? They have brought down so much pressure on themselves now due to performance over the last 2 years.
I think it is crazy to coach your son in a professional sport. Signing them is even crazier. It was a terrible idea. The father/son narrative is always boiling away in the background. Invites way too much pressure. It's OK for the Clearys, but that's only because Nathan is one of the greatest ever and winning constantly makes it OK.

I don't, or didn't think Kyle is all that bad but Flanno is bringing down so much pressure on both of them! The way he keeps saying something to end of, if not in verbatim, "Kyle is/was/has been one of our best" the more Kyle struggles.

If he said something like, "Kyle has struggled along with half a dozen others but I'm sticking with him for now as he's solid in defence and no one is knocking down the door to replace him." I think people would be on both their cases far less.

If you watched the NSW Cup game LKT didn't play well enough to be considered for 1sts in my view
Flanno should have had him training at 5/8 all off season, working with him on his game, building up his confidence, telling him he is the 5/8 with Atkinson at 1/2 for the first several rounds at least. Instead he spent the off season telling everyone how good Kyle was last season and how he is going to partner Atkinson about how he has a good kicking game and how LKT had a bad year.

Certainly not good for LKT's morale. Nothing like that should have even been uttered by Flanno Snr. He should know better, bloody hell! Performances can improve greatly if people are told that they are doing well and if there are any shortcomings get them to do more things that will help them to improve. It is of no use giving negative vibes. Plenty of encouragement goes a long way to getting peoples minds more on the job.

It is like a father who wants his son to be the best and if he fails he will say to his son that he is useless and just walk away from him. How far will that kid go in the world knowing that his Dad called him useless? Yes, the kid could try harder and prove his Dad wrong but if there is no encouragement, then why should the kid even try?

LKT and others like him have plenty of great things about them and all they need is for a good man manager to provide them with plenty of positives and encouragement. It goes a long way as I said.

I don't think Kyle can try much harder. I believe Flanno when he says Kyle trains so hard and "busts his gut". The problem is he just doesn't have the talent. A professional coach who can't see this by now is certainly blinded by something. I wouldn't say blinded by love for his only son. If that were the case he wouldn't be doing everything possible for him to be a pro RL player but encouraging him to do something he is good at. Also bringing down all this abuse on Kyle which Flanno says the whole family reads. I don't like constantly bagging him but this has gone on way too far, way too long.

You like it just a bit.
Good news is that when this farce comes to an end, we still have the most ordinary backline in the history of the NRL based on the CS and round 1 to complain about.

There's 3 or 4 posters who seem to turn every thread into how sh.t they think Flanagan is. It gets seriously repetitive and boring.
Used to be worse. Now it only comes up on every second thread while it used to be every thread.

TBH, I'm starting to have serious doubts about Flanno as well. I still think he can turn it around but needs to show he's starting to turn it around sooner rather than later IMO.

Is Trai Fuller worth a look? I know he is 28 but still has speed in the same mould as Jye Gray and my man Faalogo.

Is there still interest in Bula? With all this talk about finding a replacement fullback for our ageing captain Gutherson 31 this year but still contracted to the end of 2027. I'm confused why all this chatter.

Any thoughts?
