Recruitment and Retention for 2023

No player is bigger than the club Mitchell Pearce became a liability and failed to fit into the club culture. In my view the Cordner decision was correct but he is still part of the club, the same with Keary a player's welfare should always be top priority. My view is that most clubs have exciting youngsters coming through all if you correctly manage those resources which is the most important resource any club has then they will stay. It is a strong club culture as we are seeing now with the Panthers and for years with the Storm that their young stars have been developed patiently and now they are reaping the rewards of their patience and culture
If they were still getting value for money out of Peace and Cordner, they wouldn't have been "medically retired" or moved on.

I don't think Pearce did a whole lot wrong in his time at the Roosters. There was his well publicised video of him talking about doing something to a females dog after some guy off camera asked about his sexuality. What kind of question is that for a young guy out on the drink trying to catch a female????

His trying to catch the staff members wife at Newcastle came a few years later. That wasn't a great look but it is what it is.

That's the problem! Cordner had another 2 years or so on big money but just wasn't producing the goods. Far from it. So the Rorters hatched a plan. Let's medically retire him on impossible to prove or disprove pretext that even though he is fine now, if they don't medically retire him now, he's going to have problems later in life. It was perfect but just had one final hurdle. To get Cordner to agree as maybe he wanted to play another 2 or 3 or 4 or more years. I think he was only 28 at the time. So the Rorters promised him a comfy seat behind with a good salary forever.

Now they are preparing to do the same thing with Keary.

Conspiracy theory?

Clubs no longer show scant regards towards a players physical condition especially when it comes to life threatening injuries such as brain injuries that have been well documented by professional health experts. I doubt very much that players are discarded because they are no longer worth what they are contracted to receive . A players welfare is top priority and has been for the last 20 years so conspiracy theories without any proof hold no water with me. Just personal views.

I see. Well the thing with Pearce isn't an opinion. They even said at the time. Not outright, 'we no longer rate him' but words to that effect.

As for Cordner, talking of no proof, none at all Cordner was concussed so often there was significant danger of long term cognitive damage if he wasn't medically retired.

But as you say. Just my opinion. I could be wrong. Let's just say it was lucky timing for the Roosters. In his last several games he looked outright frail. Was really getting bashed. I remember it cause I'm not fond of them and I was enjoying the spectacle.

Personally I didn't think much of it at the time. I figured the Rorters weren't rorting but that he was in fact suffering from brain injury.

Then a week and a half ago I started reading about them possibly doing the same with Keary. It immediately made me suspicious. He's on 1.2mil next year and is playing like a 300~400K 5/8 or half at best.

I think JoDragon is probably right but IMO everyone is right in not trusting the Sydney Rorters. I read today someone say they are ruthless. Win at all costs and cheating is justified.

My opinion is that their cheating mainly comes in the form of brown paper bags filled with cash. But for things like giving them $1000 for a 5km taxi ride from a club function, $700 meals, $900 cases of beer and you see where I'm going.

Come to think of it if it became known they were faking brain injuries, the NRL, health professionals and the general public would crucify them. Much worse than run of the mill salary cap cheating.

The issue in my view with the Roosters is and always has been the influence Politis has had on the NRL heirachy and the game itself.

What's done is done. Whether they were faking Cordners condition or not is water under the bridge but if they do the same thing with Keary, surely that will raise a lot of red flags. I don't think they'll be so brazen.

Let's await the medical professionals reports before we jump to conclusions.

Relay that to Griffin please Eric Eric.

But more to the point, I honestly have no idea what's going on with Muhleisen. I've seen him play twice in the NSW Cup this season. Didn't dominate or screw up. What I know is:
  1. He's been in the NSW Cup every game so can't be going bad.
  2. Macca has had a great career but everyone can see he's just so slow now. Really makes it hard for forwards already struggling or metres.
  3. Mbye isn't a hooker. Tigers knew it. Griffin must have thought he could transform Mbye's game. He was wrong.
  4. I regards to #1, Macca and Mbye have been screwing up in the NRL.

Judging by the scores last week, maybe it's a problem with his defence.
