Jayden Sullivan’s Dragons future in doubt

St George Illawarra has locked down rising star Talatau Amone but face uncertainty surrounding the playing future of fellow young half Jayden Sullivan. Amone has agreed to a new 12-month extension at the Dragons, taking his contract until at least the end of 2024. The Dolphins showed significant interest early in the 20-year-old who has cemented himself as Ben Hunt’s halves partner this year.

While Amone’s future at the club is now secure there are doubts about Sullivan remaining at the club as he eyes a crack at a permanent starting position.
It is understood his management has already had informal discussions with the club surrounding Sullivan’s future. It stems from the club’s desire to tie down skipper Hunt for a further three years.

If that happens, do not be surprised to see Sullivan ask for an immediate release at season’s end. Sullivan only inked a long-term deal to remain at the club until the end of 2025 earlier this year. He was of the belief though that Hunt would not be extended and, if he did, Hunt would shift to hooker. There has been no talk of moving Hunt into the No.9 jersey.

Sullivan, who is sidelined with an injured shoulder, has struggled to find a permanent spot this season. He has started just one of his six matches at halfback with the rest coming off the interchange bench. In his last start, he played just two minutes off the bench.

I have a feeling Sullivan may be a better 5/8 than Amone even though 1/2 is his best position. Let's see what happens with Hunt.

As predicted unfortunately this current coach and management have given up on this partnership of Amone/Sullivan that gave us so much success in our juniors, sad to see him go.

Let Hunt go a year early. His form has been good but obviously it's not helping the team win.
If Hunt won't play 9 and let Sully play at 7 or they can alternate both positions giving us options and it solves our 9 problems then he can go ..... As you say Hunt has been good only the last couple of years and he is coming into his twilight years and if it's going to take a big chunk of money to keep him and if he has influence that Hook stays on then bye bye .....

It's not his fault it's the way the coach has structured the attack with as I said in another post 65% of all attacking moves coming from Hunt. That is so easy to defend against
Yep it's a coach thing , so if Hunt gets injured then we have nothing ..... Hunt is playing great so if that is what we want , and are happy for Hunt to be playing well and we don't care how the team is going , then Hook and Hunt can stay .... But if it's Not going to give us options in attack and Hook won't give Sully a go at 7 and is set in his ways like I said they both can go .....

Money will dictate whether Hunt stays or goes. If he stays my understanding is that it will be on about 900k a year for 2 more years. I believe that is close to what our cap will allow possibly 950k tops so if that is the case he may just go especially if Dolphins or Titans can offer him what he is presently on. Time will tell if I am right.

Time will tell on both counts

I agree. Hunt playing really well but not helping the team win games. Let him go. I saw a list of things needed on another thread. Spend Hunts money on fixing some of that.

Hunt, McCullough, McGuire and Griffin can get the f*ck out and thanks for nothing.

You almost idolise this bloke. Same as some of the footy commentators that vote for him. I dont see it.. week in week out.. What am I missing. Does he win us games when they are there to be won. No he lacks the skill. Dead set I dont know of a so called quality play maker that messes up so many moves with either a poor pass, poor judgement, overplaying his hand. In short, he lacks the creative touch. He looks top shelf when he is taking on the line or getting us another set with a 40/20, and yes he plays with passion and is inspirational as our skipper. But surely that should be a prerequisite for all those wearing the RedV.
I hate to disagree with Jo Dragon but I have to do it here. I also think his form has been drastically overrated this year. In form playmakers win games for the team! As Jo Dragon demonstrated, the coach has them going with a game plan that revolves around Hunt. Of course he is going to stand out.

Not saying Hunt has been bad, just that he hasn't been especially good.

No he hasn't. That honor belongs to JDB. Never has a bad game. Just loves tackling anyone that moves and wants the ball in his hand more than any other player. He is inspirational.
JDB our best by a wide margin. Hunt is neck and neck with Suli for No.2. Tariq Sims is up around No.2 also. Despite being picked out of his best position for most of the season to accommodate Bird.

Not only this year. Pretty much since he came here. For someone that holds such an esteemed role in this club (chief play maker and captain) I say he has failed for the most part. I give him no more than 6/10 for his career to date.

I think you're allowed to disagree with Jo Dragon.
