Recruitment and Retention for 2023

Canberra are going to sabotage their NRLW team by makIng Shaylee Bent one of their two marquee players in order get her BF Fifita. Anyone who watched NRLW last season could see she was getting selected on reputation, not form. Though she should have been a centre, where she excelled previously, not a backrower.
Sowie thinks every centre is another Beau Scott:rolleyes:.

Promise for 2025 season if you can't read it here's a snippet :

Towering prop Loko Pasifika Tonga and speedster Joven Gyemore have been rewarded for helping Ipswich State High School to its first Langer Trophy with both being signed by the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The 17-year-old Tonga, who stands tall at 194cm and 122kg, has signed for three years while Murgon’s Gyemore, an electric wing or outside back, has signed for one year.

Usually I'm negative on QLD juniors signed by the Dragons. I feel they are the ones GC, Broncos, Redcliff, NQ and Melbourne don't want. But I hope I'm wrong.

Phil Rothfield saying the Dogs are trying to get rid of Luke Thompson. I wonder what it is with this guy. He's on overs at the Dogs but why don't any other clubs want him? Seems like a gun prop. Matt Lodge is also unsigned but apparently he is indeed the *+#"% he is rumored to be. Might not be the best influence for the young players coming through.

Thompson might have personality problems as well.

Signing Thompson with the Bulldogs paying part of his salary would be a coup.

Fuimaono is not bad as a forward utility. As a matter of fact, maybe a better forward utility than Bird.

Hopefully Bird starts next season with a few less kgs of fat and a few more of muscle and has done a stack of tackling practice.

This is supposed to be the big signing we have been waiting to hear about. Big , yes in statue, a regular journey man, 31, has played for three NRL teams and in England. Just what we want to go with the other duds we have signed. Left field, give the young pup Loko Tonga a crack in the top 30. Big, talented with hormones and competitive juices flowing. Better where we can closely nurture him rather than have him become stagnant in lower grades and risk being poached.

I think it's still just a rumour at this point but if true...... I don't know what to say other than the recruitment and retention committee have lost their minds! A 31 year-old journeyman who couldn't hold down a regular NRL position in a team going worse than us. After the debacles of Woods and Burgess who were both younger than 31 when they signed!

It will be ok if the club is getting rid of someone who they don't want. Like Josh Kerr or Woods. I don't think anyone would care if Billy Burns wanted out.

I'm really surprised they haven't signed Josh Mansour. I was going to say, "surprised they haven't had a crack at signing Josh Mansour" but no other club wants him. He's over 30, obviously well past his best and no other club wants him. Seems like just the kind of player Hook likes working with!

There is still time.

As I predicted unfortunately 2025 will be our first taste of semi finals football since 2018. By then we will have removed the deadwood and our juniors would have come through. Our recruitment for this season includes 2 players, Liddell and Musgrave from the wooden spooners. A forward from the Warriors who happened to finish 15th so 2nd last, doesn't instill any confidence in our recruitment team but certainly confirms my statement that NOBODY is knocking down our door to pull on the once feared red v under this coach and under our current club and team culture. It's so very sad 😔 but I will be still wearing my dragons gear walking my dog around the Gold Coast whilst being laughed at by no other than Titans fans who are equally favoured to sneak into the bottom half of the top 8. Happy New Year.

The Roar named one "breakout player" for every club. Most were young players but no surprise the player they nominated for the Dtragons was...

15. St George Illawarra Dragons

Nick Lui-Toso

An unknown prop hailing from the Northern Pride, this front-rower is going to be catching a few fans double-taking in 2023. Turning 27 midway through the season, Lui-Toso is a late bloomer, but it's better late than never. The Red V has a really underwhelming front-row rotation this season, meaning it only takes a few bad games through the middle for Anthony Griffin to call-up the journeyman.

Does Griffin this a 27 year-old QLD Cup journeyman is going to make the front row rotation no longer underwhelming?
